Unusual facts about some of the worlds favourite holiday haunts

By Emily Collins

In terms of its modernism, Dubai is one of the youngest places on the planet. Its swaggering skyline only erupted from the ground over the past few decades, like it's been in some architectural cold war. But this jaw-dropping feat wasn't achieved by the nationals alone.

Less than 20% of the people in Dubai are Emirati nationals, with expats making up the majority of the population. The influx has been so large that the number of people has tripled since 1995, when the figure stood at a mere 700,000. The estimate is now 2.1 million, and even in the face of recession, people still flock there to become a part of the success story.

The population of Morocco is 32 million, similar to that of Canada, though the landmass is more like California's. There is a small Christian and Jewish presence, however Islam is the prevalent religion in the country meaning that most nationals do not drink alcohol. Those that might be tempted will be instantly put off by the 100% domestic booze tax that the government has in place. The country does however have fourteen highly regarded wine regions.

We British love a good cup of tea, and so do the Moroccans! Whilst we prefer black tea, they favour green and have a big variety to choose from. Much like in China, tea ceremonies are common; during these people are shown how to prepare and drink tea correctly. Moroccans have a much sweeter tooth than is common in Britain however, having as many as six lumps of sugar in their tea, so be careful when accepting a cup!

Tunisia is home of the ancient city of Carthage, and once played a very important role in the Mediterranean: it's proximity on the edge of North Africa meant it acted as a hub, with easy access to vital shipping routes. In fact, over the years, the Romans, Arabs, Ottomans, and French all saw Tunisia's strategic significance and used it as a regional vantage point too.

The best things to do in Orlando for free

By Peter Warren

I know exactly what you're thinking. "Free in Orlando? Whatever!" Well in actuality there are lots of free attractions in Orlando. Now obviously they aren't going to be as awesome as the more established attractions in Orlando, but if you're on a low budget and you are looking to fill a day in, don't forget to check a couple of these out.

The Boardwalk near EPCOT

Take a laid-back walk along Disney's Boardwalk, a re-creation of a 1930s-style Atlantic coastal community. The 45-acre waterfront community is popular for its nightclubs and entertainment hot spots. You're whole group are sure to take delight in the many street musicians, magicians, or performers that are absolutely free.

Celebration - A Town Built by Disney

Travel the streets of Celebration. The town, crafted by Disney, is a combination of modern technology and historic-themed buildings. Marvel at the vintage shops and let the younger children play in the interactive water fountain. Visit the farmers market before 1pm on Sundays, and see the many free events (author readings) available through Reading Trout Books. Travelers could possibly see (realistic) snow falling in the winter season.

Downtown Disney

You don't need to spend money on a ticket to experience Disney's retail stores and entertainment. Wander the streets of Downtown Disney and Disney Springs for a number of boutiques and dining spots. Watch glassblowers at Arribas Brothers and pay a visit to the 4,400-square-foot (409-square-meter) LEGO Imagination Center to experience a "beat-the-clock" building contest, or view a 12-foot (3.6-meter) T. Rex and 30-foot (9-meter) sea serpent, each manufactured from thousands of LEGO bricks. And be sure to check out their Festival of the Masters (November), an arts-and-crafts event where kids can make their own chalk drawings.

Fireworks at Walt Disney World

Even though you aren't in the park, it doesn't mean you can't view the Magic Kingdom fireworks. There are lots of superb viewing locations at and around the Magic Kingdom Resort Hotels. A couple of my favorites are The Polynesian hotel beach area, Bay Lake Tower, and The Grand Floridian Resort. These areas will most likely play the soundtrack from the shows to allow you to enjoy the full effect.

Spook Hill

Many tourists still ask if the Legend of Spook Hill is still true. Located in Lake Wales, Florida, a sign marks the place where you should stop the car, leave it in neutral, and watch as your vehicle mysteriously climbs back up to the top of the hill. They say the spirits of Children push you back up. But are they true? We dare you to find out for yourself!
