Lyon Beats Real Madrid In Champions League Play

By Ross Everett

Jean Makoun scored early in the second half to give Lyon a hard fought 1-0 victory in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League matchup against Real Madrid. The Spanish champions lost for the third straight time on Lyon's Stade Gerland home field and will now have an uphill battle when the teams meet at Bernabeu to advance to the next round. With the Champions League final slated to be held in their stadium, an exit this early in the competition would be nothing short of an embarrassment for Real Madrid.

Lyon controlled the play in the first half and held a decisive possession advantage. Unfortunately, they didn't get many accurate scoring chances with a number of them going wide or high of the net. Despite Lyon's time of possession advantage in the first half, Madrid actually got the best scoring chances in the first half. Following Makoun's goal just 2 minutes from the start of the second half, Madrid controlled play but could not score the equalizer. For the game, Madrid held a 66% to 34% time of possession advantage. The shots on goal were even, but Madrid had the better chances despite not scoring on them.

Real Madrid has won the Champions League title 10 times, but now must rally from this 1-0 deficit when play resumes on their home field in May. Despite their tradition of success, Madrid hasn't made it past the round of 16 for six straight years. Cristiano Ronaldo isn't particularly worried heading into the home half of the matchup:

"In football anything is possible. We've lost here but we have a game at home in which we can repeat what they did here. I'm calm. In this competition you have to suffer. I'm sure that we will give a good answer in the return game and that we will win. The Bernabeu will help us. We will have to give to give it everything from the first minute until the last. The tie is not lost."

Madrid General Director Jorge Valdano added:

"It's been a bad night in general, especially the result. We had ups and downs during the match, but at no moment were we ourselves. The result means we have to really concentrate at the Bernabeu. Lyon barely stepped out of their half in the final minutes, but they made things very difficult for us for a long time, especially in midfield."

Real Madrid will have to do without a couple of starters in the rematch. Marcelo and Xabi Alonso are suspending for the May contest due to bookings in previous contests.

Prevent Over-Tanning with these Tips

By Ganesh Chovorick

The sun is high, the beach is calling you and the season of summer is just around the corner. During summertime, a lot of people hit the beach to get a little rest and relaxation with their friends and family. Swimming at the deep blue sea and sneaking a bit of exercise by playing catch or beach volleyball are some activities you can do at the beach. You can even read your magazines and blu cigs reviews while chilling at the beach. But nothing beats getting a tan as a favorite pasttime of beach lovers.

Getting a little tan wouldn't hurt, especially if you know your skin's limit. But some people, due to prolonged sun exposure get 'baked' under the sun. In the end, they don't get the tan they want, and they turn to dark. This is something that you wouldn't want to happen.

In order to prevent browning yourself too much, try using a really good sunscreen on your skin. Apply this about 10 to 15 minutes before sun exposure, so that your skin will be able to absorb it. After which, you are now ready to stay under the sun. But remember to re-apply your sun block. A good way to determine the right kind of sun block for your skin is by going to your dermatologist to get her opinion on what you should use. You can also read reviews like the blu cig reviews to know more about a certain sun block brand that you want to use.

Another good thing to have when getting a tan is a timer, a watch or mobile phone will do. Why do you need one? You can set the time that you want, say 10 minutes, on your timer. The time given will be the time you will be using while under the rays of the sun. If the timer goes off, check your skin before deciding if you need a few more minutes or not. Don't stay too long in the sun because you may develop skin diseases and this is much worse than getting your skin baked.

If the sun is too hot for you, don't try to expose yourself. This may not be the right kind of rays you want on your skin. A sun that is too hot will lead to skin cancer, allergies and so many other skin diseases. Apart from this, you may also become dehydrated because of the heat. Before this happens, bring a bottle of water or a can of soda or juice with you to hydrate yourself.

Del Mar Racetrack: 'Where The Surf Meets the Turf'

By Ross Everett

Southern California's Del Mar Racetrack has been somewhat forgotten by the general public in recent years, overshadowed by East Coast venues like Churchill Downs and Belmont Park. The reality is that the 72 year old track has a history to rival their better known counterparts. Operated by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and located 20 miles North of San Diego, its perhaps most famous for its iconic slogan "Where The Surf Meets the Turf" but that only scratches the surface of its star studded history.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club was founded in the mid'30s, and they immediately turned their attention to building a world class horse racing venue. The names that were instrumental in the creation of Del Mar include a whos who of American entertainment--most notably Bing Crosby, Oliver Hardy (of Laurel and Hardy) and Jimmy Durante. At the time the facility opened thoroughbred horse racing was the second most popular sport in America behind major league baseball, and Del Mar's show biz roots further helped secure its place as an important stop on the racing circuit.

The show biz legends that have been Del Mar regulars could fill a book. Bing Crosby was one of catalysts behind the building of the facility, and he personally greeted guests on opening day. During the late 30's/early 40's it hosted stars such as W.C. Fields, Edgar Bergen, Red Skelton, Ava Gardner and Paulette Goddard.

Del Mar was the site of the'38 match race between Seabiscuit and Ligaroti. Seabiscut won the $25,000 winner take all challenge by a nose, and this race set Del Mar betting and attendance records and remains one of the most famous races in history. The racing at Del Mar continued to flourish until the start of WWII, when the track went 'dark' for racing.

After the war, Del Mar reopened with a bang. The track reopened the day after Japan formally surrendered to Allied forces, and on that day Del Mar attracted over 20,000 fans through its gates who wagered what at the time was a record $958,476. The postwar prosperity was also a boon to Del Mar, which also benefitted from the Santa Fe Railroads daily Racetrack Special that brought bettors down from Los Angeles to enjoy a day at the track. During the latter part of the decade a new crop of Hollywood glitterati would flock to Del Mar, including Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Mickey Rooney John Holmes, Frank Sinatra and Jimmy Durante. Durante would become such a regular that the turf course at Del Mar would later be renamed in his honor.

Even though the popularity of horse racing among the mainstream populace would ebb over the years, Del Mar remains a viable part of the thoroughbred community to this day. Theyve updated their facility, with a state of the art grand stand and most recently a synthetic polytrack surface that was installed in 2007. The racing season at Del Mar begins in mid July, and hosts crowds of 20,000+ on a daily basis throughout.

Men's Summer Vacation Fashion - Advice From An Expert

By Mark Walters

For the forward thinking man who likes to have things planned well in advance, we've put together a little guide on a few key items you should always remember to pack when preparing for your summer vacation. First on the list is a pair of sunglasses. These are small and so easy to fit in with the rest of your luggage. Make sure to protect your eyes from both the sun and any glare by taking with you the biggest pair you can find.

So, you've got your sunglasses and the next thing you need to be sure to take is a selection of tees, or T-shirts. These will be great for any trips to bars and restaurants as well as protecting you from the sun on the beach if you feel the need to cover up for a while. Cotton is a good fabric for tees as it's loose and breathable. Take a range of colors with you so you can mix and match, but be sure they don't clash with your tan.

Another key item you should make sure to pack in your suitcase is a pair or two of board shorts. These will serve you well whether you're spending the day chilling on the beach or if you're off out on a day trip to do some exploring. They're generally made out of a breathable fabric that also folds up really small, meaning they'll fit easily into your luggage. Knee length shorts are especially trendy and they can double up as bathing shorts, helping you save room in your luggage.

You might think it's only women who have need of multiple pairs of shoes, but it can be a good idea to take a couple of pairs with you on vacation. They shouldn't take up too much room in your suitcase, though, so don't worry. The two main shoes you should take are sturdy sandals and casual flip flops, which will cater to all your needs. Flip flops are great for the beach or casual exploring on vacation, while sandals are great if you're planning on walking any distance.

Particularly if you have fair skin, it can be a really good idea to take a few casual long-sleeve shirts with you. These will be great for protecting your shoulders from the sun as well as for if you find yourself going out for any formal meals or events. Choose light colors that reflect the sun, such as white or pale blue, as this will ensure they keep you cool even with long sleeves. You could even wear a shirt unbuttoned for a cool, casual summer vacation look.

The Major Use Of A Property Sign

By Amanda Bowler

Owning property that is not often visited or a parking space that is in a prime space can cause issues with neighbors or trespassers. It is possible that you want to keep people off of your land.

People often find open spaces without homes or fences and believe that it is free land in which they may camp, fish or even let their children play with no consequences. Using a private property sign will help those people to be informed of the private land laws.

Many times, people simply do not know that the land they are on is owned by a private individual if there are no signs telling them so. The best way to prevent people from entering is to install a private property sign.

Getting a private property sign is an inexpensive way to ensure the safety of your property from people who trespass. It is often the case that the people did not mean any harm and entered because there were no signs posted.

There are a large variety of private property signs that can be purchased to inform your neighbors that they cannot park in your driveway or in front of your home. Even when you are not present, the sign informs people that they are not allowed to park there.

As it is possible to seem like an irritable person if you have to constantly verbally remind your neighbors and passers-by that you do not want them on your property, a sign speaks for you. Since you have invested a great deal of money into your property, as sign helps you keep your land safe.

Due to the lack of a sign signifying the private space, people trespass unwillingly. A sign would keep them from breaking the law inadvertently.

Be a good neighbor and place your private property signs in your yard today.

Watch The Complex Movie Memento

By Ronald Luna

Chances are, if you're taking a look into an article like this one, than you are trying to get a better glimpse into the very critically acclaimed and instant classic, "Memento". Sure, there is a good bit to know and to understand about this film, most of which will likely be discussed within this article and the content of its paragraphs.

While there might be several different things to consider and understand when it comes to a film like this, the best way that you can understand the film is through learning about the important events of the plot. The trouble with this is, the plot is not in chronological order, as most movies would be and therefore this becomes a little bit tricky when you go to detail the events of the film.

So for the sake of this article and the explanation of the film itself, you will simply have to excuse the film being described in chronological order, when in all actuality these events are rather spread out through the film in various orders. The reason for this is the very nature of the film, and without it being so sporadic, the film might not have been as good.

The reason, is that the main character of the piece, Leonard Shelby, suffers from anterograde amnesia. This is a condition that allows you to keep all the memories that you have up until the time you get it, but you cannot create new memories from then after. He got the condition from receiving a blow to the head when he attempted to stop two men from raping and killing his wife. He managed to kill one of the two, while the other clubbed him in the head. This blow caused the amnesia.

He is rather taken advantage of in his condition, as several people have allowed him to do their dirty work, giving him ammunition in saying that they had something to do with the killing of his wife. Important information that he collects that is relative to the case is tattooed onto his body, so that he does not forget them.

He receives a phone call from what he believes to be a police officer named John, though he prefers to go by Teddy. He claims that he can take Leonard to the second killer, a drug dealing punk named Jimmy, so that he can exact his revenge. What the audience learns later, is that Jimmy had nothing to do with Lenny's wife. And Teddy feeds Lenny a story about having already found the other killer a year ago.

Others are introduced into the story, and more important facts are brought into play. Through the course of the film you presumably learn the identity of the second killer and get a front row seat to watch Leonard exact his revenge. This film is over run with quality performances that made the production powerful. Performances like that of Guy Pearce who played Leonard Shelby and Joe Pantaliano who played Teddy Gammel.

"Memento" can be hard to follow if you aren't paying very close attention to it. The film was likely as successful as it was given the nature of the title character's condition and how the events of the film played into the chaos that living without being able to make new memories would inspire.

Minnesota Loses First Game of Season

By Ross Everett

Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings are undefeated no more. The Pittsburgh Steelers' used a couple of big plays from their defense in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and defeat the Vikings by a final score of 27-17. Favre put up decent yardage in the loss, throwing for 334 yards but had no touchdowns and an interception. The defending Superbowl Champion Steelers improved to 5-2, while the Vikings are now 6-1.

NFL pointspread players who backed the Steelers as -6 home favorites were rewarded with the cover. Pittsburgh had only covered one of their first six games heading into the contest, and the win improved their record against the number to 2-5. Minnesota dropped to 4-3 against the spread with the setback. The 44 points scored went UNDER the posted total of 46'. It was only the Vikings' second UNDER of the season against five OVERS, while the Steelers have gone OVER in four of their seven games.

The Steelers largely shut down Minnesota's rushing game, holding Adrian Peterson to 69 yards. Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark underscored his team's dominance against the run:

"That's the biggest point of the game. You have the best running back in the world and you don't give it to him. They're saying they can't beat us running, and that's a major statement when you have the guy they have back there."

Favre gave a mealy mouthed justification for the loss in his postgame interview:

"There were a lot of what ifs, a lot of reasons we didn't win. The red zone was one of them. They're physical, and they were as good as we thought they'd be. ... When I came here and looked at our schedule and saw the Steelers game, I went, 'Oh-h-h.' "

Favre has only thrown three interceptions in a Vikings' uniform, but #3 was a costly one as it was returned by Steelers' Keyaron Fox for a touchdown to put the game out of reach as Minnesota was driving for a potential game tying field goal. Afterwards, Fox recalled the play:

"Brett tried to force it in there and the running back bobbled it and slipped out of his hands and it fell into my lap. I had just run across the field after Peterson and I was winded, so it felt like it was 100-plus yards."

The Vikings now face another big game next week as they head to Favre's old stomping grounds in Green Bay for a battle with the Packers. It'll be Favre's first appearance at his old home in an enemy uniform. The Vikings will then have a bye weekend before hosting the lowly Detroit Lions on November 15. Pittsburgh will enjoy a bye week this week before returning to action on Monday, November 9th facing the Denver Broncos on the road.

Boys Will Love Velcro Shoes

By Ryder Morgan

Childhood is the period of time for kids to grow very fast. Boys grow faster than girls, with boys you will have to buy them a new pair of shoes every couple of months to suit their needs. They need to have shoes that can give them enough support for their everyday playing activities. Boy's shoes should also be very comfortable to wear because if they are not then he will have a terrible time walking or running on them and might even cause injuries later on.

Stability and protection is not enough to have in a boy's shoes, they should also be just right for the budget so you can save for his next pair in just a couple of months or so later. As hard to accept as it may be, boy's shoes actually take more punishment that those of adult shoes. All day our little boys jump, run, climb and do many more movements with their feet. It is also a fact that later on their shoes will be collecting lots of dirt and mud so it is a good habit to wash them once in a while.

Boy's shoes are worn daily to go to school and to get some education. Therefore, they must not only have tough and durable shoes but also a breeze to maintain and put on, so we are offering you boy's Velcro shoes. Velcro sport trainer shoes are one of the popular designs for boys today. This footwear is practical and fashionable at the same time.

Buying your boy's shoes is like choosing which video game your kid likes to play with; that is why it is a wise move to ask your boy first if there is a specific design, color or style he likes in his shoes so that he will learn to take care of them. Unlike if you choose the design and he disagrees with it, he will just ignore them completely and rather walk barefoot. Another good tip is to bring your boy with you when buying his pair so he can fit and test walk them to make sure they are not too loose or tight.

Tying shoe laces is a very hard thing to do for little boys. You need to be very patient with them and use clear explanation that is easy for them to follow. It is even a good idea to add a little story about tying shoe laces; just like that boy scouts do to teach their little scouts to tie their first knot. But for those who are having an enormous difficulty with this task, it is imperative for you to buy your boy Velcro shoes. We all know Velcro shoes are unbelievably easy to put on and take off. Just grab the Velcro and stick it to the other Velcro on the other side, and you are done.

It is true regardless of whether you are commercial or for your own private use.

Most of the people that have greenhouses consider themselves to be advanced gardeners and are ready to have greenhouse maintenance as a hobby.

If you want to become and advanced gardener and you are facing uncertainty about what challenges the natural environment will bring, you are better off getting a greenhouse. You will then be at a vantage position to both invest the right effort and reap the benefits.

Running a greenhouse garden will carry with it benefits. The first problem that you will solve with it is that of excessive exposure to sun. It screens out that which is not needed.

Having a nice greenhouse increases the chances of success at training up your plants because with a greenhouse, you are assuring your plants shelter from harsh condition. Take for example the sensitive plants that you would have grown in a greenhouse but could not in the open due to heavy rain or snow.

A gardener who has a greenhouse has an advantage of the one who grows stuff in the open because of the issue of temperature. In that sense, say you want to grow a plant and it specifically requires some low temperature, the person with the greenhouse can keep track using a thermometer and increase or decrease the temperature accordingly. You therefore do not require advanced skills to be able to administrate a greenhouse.

Temperature immediately ceases to be a big issue once you have the greenhouse. The plants in your care are more secure compared to the gardener who grows plants in the open, exposed to heavy rains, strong winds and blizzards. The greenhouse is a containment area where probability of natural attacks to your plants is decreased greatly.

Greenhouse gardening is worth your experimenting. It has vast benefits right from the word go. Your skill level is not a problem. Anyone using a green house gains more control over his garden than one who does not.

About Gordons Bay

By Johannes Stiefel

Widely regarded as one of the Helderberg Region of Cape Town most popular destinations, Gordon's Bay was named after Captain James Gordon - a Dutch Easy India Company captain who explored the region in 1778. Largely regarded as the Monte Carlo of South Africa -- with it's restaurants, bars and nightclubs on the beach road and Mediterranean climate.

With it's calm waters and crisp white sand that goes on for kilometers, Gordon's Bay's beaches have become a popular destination for sheltered sunbathing and swimming. The most famous beach on offer in Gordon's Bay is Bikini Beach and during the summer months, this famous destination attracts a large following and can become crowded. Minimum standards of environmental cleanliness - both in terms of water and the beach - ensures that Bikini Beach maintains it's status as one of few blue flag beaches in Cape Town.

Gordon's Bay offers visitors the district the opportunity to overlook the setting of the South African sun from the comfort of a conveniently located restaurants, bars and nightclubs lining the beach road of Gordon's Bay. Guests to the region will find a handful of restaurants on the waters edge -- overlooking the beauty of Gordon's Bay and offering a limited menu of fresh seafood.

A large number of nearby activities have been attracted to the area due to Gordon's Bay appeal as a tourist destination and it's breathtaking beauty. Active guests will have the opportunity to dust off the old hiking boots and hit the trail to explore the Helderberg Nature Reserve. Walking up to the Steenbras Dam -- the main provider of Cape Town's drinking water -- and overlooking the entire False Bay is a memorable experience. Fun in the sun awaits at the Blue Rock Cable Waterski resort -- where guests can enjoy a day waterskiing, without a boat. For guests looking for that relaxing day on the fairways -- Gordon's Bay is surrounded by a large number of world class golf courses.

In terms of accommodation -- Gordon's Bay is home to a relatively elite group of residents who exhibit this via the construction of palatial structures that seem to cling to the steep Helderberg mountain range magically. With a view of Gordon's Bay laid out beneath it -- most Gordon's Bay guest houses offer luxury accommodation. Guests to the region will be happy to find that most of the accommodation in Gordon's Bay is extremely well located and just to add to the appeal, most offer conference venues in Gordon's Bay too.

Gordon's Bay was originally known as Fish Hoek - evidence of which can be found on the board outside the local post office. However, Gordon's Bay has come a long way since the name change and has gone from strength to strength. Gordon's Bay is already regarded as the most popular destination in the Helderberg region and looks set to overtake its larger, more famous neighbors with a couple of activities to spare.

Review of the Film "Zulu"

By Rob Atherton

The 1964 film "Zulu" tells the story from the defence of Rorke's Drift by the small garrison of British soldiers who had been assaulted by in excess of 4,000 Zulu warriors. The soldiers held out while the conflicts raged in to the night of 22/23 Jan 1879. In the daybreak, the Zulus had brought an end to the attack.

The movie stars Stanley Baker and Michael Caine with Richard Burton narrating and was a follow up to "Zulu Dawn". That motion picture told the storyline of the Battle of Isandlwana that happened earlier that day. The initial clips start with the consequences of Isandlwana as Richard Burton narrates the telegram from Lord Chelmsford informing the government of the loss of Isandlwana. Zulus are shown accumulating guns from the dead British troopers.

At the time of the battle, Rorke's Drift was a mission station run by Swedish missionary Otto Witt. While Lord Chelmsford brought his men over the Buffalo River into Zululand from Natal, a company from the 24th Regiment remained behind to watch the mission station that was getting used as a hospital and a supply depot by the British. The 2 officers were Lieutenant John Chard of the Royal Engineers played by Stanley Baker along side Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead of the 24th played by Michael Caine. This was Caine's first starring role.

The film shows Chard and some troopers making a bridge on the Buffalo River. Bromhead comes back following a hunting trip and the two exchange words prior to a scouting party arrives informing them of the devastation at Isandlwana. Chard is seen to assume overall control because he was commissioned a couple of months sooner than Bromhead and whilst this is procedure, it irks Bromhead. They take a look at their choices with Lieutenant Joseph Ardendorff of the Natal Native Contingent (NNC) who had been one of the handful of survivors out of Isandlwana. Ardendorff is portrayed by Gert Van den Bergh. The Afrikanner explains the Zulu "Horns of the Buffalo"? tactics. Bromhead believes they need to leave but Chard makes the decision to stand and fight on ground of their choosing.

The Reverand Otto Witt and his adult daughter also are at the mission station and attempt to have the troops to flee so as to prevent a fight. Witt convinced troopers with the NNC to leave Rorke's Drift. At that point, Chard orders Witt and his daughter to leave the mission station in their buggy. In the meantime, protective lines of mealie sacks and wagons are being positioned to boost the defensive positions by joining the store room and the hospital. This is carried out under the watch of CSM Frank Bourne performed by Nigel Green.

As the Zulu warriors approached, Boer horsemen show up at Rorke's Drift. Notwithstanding requests from Chard, the Boers leave the British garrison. Immediately the fight begins with ranks of Zulu warriors facing up to the British defences. The Zulu warriors are mown down by concentrated fire from the soldiers of the 24th and they eventually fall back. Following that, Zulu sharpshooters in the hillsides start off shooting down into the mission station and the British suffer their very first dead and injured.

The Zulu warriors keep probing with their assaults and finally fight their way into the hospital, setting fire to the roof along the way. Private Henry Hook, who has thus far been portrayed as a good for nothing layabout, takes control of the situation in the infirmary as he helps with a breakout of the patients by digging through the walls of the infirmary. The remaining soldiers get away from the burning infirmary across to the final redoubt in close proximity to the store house as the conflicts raged into the night.

By morning, the Zulus started a war song ready for a final assault. The troops of the 24th reacted by singing "Men of Harlech". The last assault see the Zulus charge into a hail of British rifle fire as 3 ranks of troops fire volley after volley down into the onrushing Zulu warriors. Due to such serious losses, the Zulus finally withdraw. The British begin to regroup and CSM Bourne takes a role call. The Zulus come back on the hillsides looking down on the mission station however as an alternative to attacking, they sing in salute of the "fellow warriors".

The movie ends with Richard Burton narrating. He reads out the names of the eleven men who were awarded the Victoria Cross for the defence of Rorke's Drift. The men who were awarded the V.C. were:

- Corporal William Wilson Allen

- Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead

- Lieutenant John Rouse Merriot Chard

- Acting Assistant Commissary James Langley Dalton

- Private Fredrick Hitch

- Private Alfred Henry Hook

- Private Robert Jones

- Private William Jones

- Surgeon Major James Henry Reynolds

- Corporal Christian Ferdinand Schiess

- Private John Williams

Furthermore, 5 men were also awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal:

- Colour Sergeant Frank Bourne

- Private John William Roy

- Second Corporal Michael McMahon

- Second Corporal Francis Attwood

- Wheeler John Cantwell

As with all films based on a true experience, there are many different discrepancies. A few are for artistic licence although others will be oversights for various other reasons.

The film shows the 24th Regiment of Foot as a Welsh regiment. However, it was not named the South Wales Borderers until 1881, 2 years later than Rorke's Drift. There was a significant number (close to 25%) of men from Wales in B Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot but the the vast majority were from England.

The Swedish missionary Otto Witt was shown in the film that his daughter was grown-up. Yet, his 2 kids were both infants. On top of that he was not the pacifist the motion picture implies and had made it clear he didn't oppose the British intervention with Cetshawayo.

The British weapons were the Martini-Henry which discharged a substantial .45 round. It was easily capable of causing huge injury to the human body. In the picture, the wounds on shot Zulus are tiny. In one scene in the hospital, a warrior who was battling hand to hand with Private Hook was shot in the back and Hook was unscathed. At such short range, the round from the Martini-Henry would have easily passed through the Zulu and killed Hook too.

Nowadays, Rorke's Drift is a tourism destination for visitors who would like to discover more about the Anglo Zulu War of 1879.

Fishing For Bass

By Owen Jones

It is very handy to get some tips on bass fishing when you are a beginner. Firstly, it it is important to know that bass are fish whose metabolism depends on the temperature of the surrounding water. Their metabolism rises or falls proportionally with the increase or decrease in water temperature. Therefore, if the water where they happen to be is cold, as it is in deeper waters, they are less active and so eat a lot less.

Therefore, around about January, you should start bass fishing in increasingly warmer waters because the bass will want to leave the colder deeper waters so that they can spawn. Furthermore, during the Autumn/Fall the bass begin to move towards colder and deeper waters where they would be safer during the cold season. But fishermen should not expect them to migrate great distances all that quickly because their cycles of moving from one place to the next as the seasons do take several months.

It is also a good tip to realize when bass fishing that these fish are very sociable, which means that they tend to shoal together in schools, especially those which are the same size. So, if you have already caught some bass in one area, you are likely to catch more in the same area as long as you do not throw the dead fish you've already caught back into the water as that will panic the rest of the school.

In addition, bass fishing areas are fairly easy to spot. One should take into account that they are predators but not very active ones as their favorite meal is not actually one they have to struggle for. They would rather wait patiently and lazily for a victim to come by and then snap it up.

They very often go for injured or less energetic game even though this might not be on their regular menu. Their regular menu consists of crawfish, minnows, worms, insects, frogs and so on. If fishermen learn these things about bass, together with their mating habits, fishing for them should be much easier and more fun.

But, don't forget that bass are also prey themselves and so they need protection as well, which is why the most successful bass fishing is carried out in areas where the fish can find safety: for example in and around rocks of any size, weeds and any other shady or indeed sunny, well-lit areas where it is difficult for them to be attacked.

Successful bass fishing may also depend on the type of bait that is chosen by the angler. Bait should vary according to both the season " spring, summer, autumn or winter " and the spawning cycle of this fish species. For beginners, let us not forget that there are always experienced anglers ready to come up with tips. Just don't be afraid to ask because the most effective bait varies from region to region.

Poker Stereotypes: A Tool in Poker

By Hulk Hawking

Poker is a complicated game. It has a lot of variables that can impact the game down to every single hand. Different players, different cards, the dealer, then there's calculating odds, reading hands, tilting. A lot of things can affect every single hand of every single game.

Some of these variables are out of the player's control. No matter what he does, he cannot affect these factors. Some of these are bad beats and coolers; just incidents where you outplayed your opponent but just didn't manage to win.

Some of these poker variables though, can easily be affected or even controlled by your decisions. Knowing how to do this is very crucial in your growth as a poker player. Some of these variables are knowing when to bluff, putting your opponent on a range, reading your opponent, making him think you have a set of cards different from what you holding, and a lot more.

Being able to read your opponent is one of these very valuable skills in poker. This enables you to make good intelligent decisions based on what you know about your opponents. You can make decisions based on your reads on them. You can also play to make them think you have a hand totally different from what you are holding.

But what do you do when you have no information about your opponent? Like when you play against a person you've never seen before?

In these cases, it is important to have a backup plan. A tool you can use to help you get and edge, no matter how slight it may be. In this particular case, that tool will be stereotypes.

Always using stereotypes in all cases is just plain dumb. People don't act the same just because they look the same. Believing this is the case will drain your bankroll faster than you can spell stereotypes.

However, if you have absolutely no information to help you, then following stereotypes will often be the best choice you have; but only if you have absolutely no other information to base your reads on. This won't always be right, maybe just a little above 50%, but you have to take whatever edge you can.

An example of this is when you join a tournament and go up against completely random strangers. In this instance, the stereotype that comes into your mind when you look at your opponents is actually very valuable.

Whatever it may be, if you have nothing else to go on, lean towards the other stereotype characteristics that go with the one you observe. If an old man bets when the board pairs on the river when there was a flush draw possible, odds are, he isn't bluffing. If a drunken guy with his mistress sitting behind him bets in the same situation while taunting you, then the odds are in your favor that your low pair is good.

In the real world, stereotyping isn't as reliable as logical thinking. But in the poker world, where a small advantage can mean a lot of money in the long run, then having something better than a coin flip is profitable.

Colditz - A Castle with a Rich Heritage

By Rob Atherton

Colditz Castle is quite possibly best known as a top security POW camp used by the Nazis for the duration of World War II to hold Allied prisoners of war who they thought of as "incorrigible". Having said that, the castle is more than 800 years old which means there is much more to its heritage than the six years when it was generally known as Oflag IV-C.

Work commenced in the mid 12th century on the imposing castle located on a hill overlooking Colditz in Saxony, Germany. Inside a few years, habitations started to appear in the vicinity of the castle and after close to 250 years, it was sold by the Lords of Coldtiz.

A big fire in the early 1500s resulted in significant sections of the castle needed to be rebuilt along with the city hall, church and large areas of the city. Over the years, renovation and rebuilding construction saw the shape of the castle transform and in the 19th century it was rebuilt yet again and made use of as a workhouse and later on a mental hospital till 1924.

In 1933, the Nazis took power and converted the castle to a prison for political pows. After the beginning of World War II in 1939, prisoners of war were detained here. It was used to hold high risk prisoners of war who were deemed dangerous and likely to try to escape. Although it was a maximum security pow camp, the nature of the inmates at Oflag IV-C (it's POW camp camp name), meant there were many innovative escape efforts. There was even one scheme where POWs intended to utilise a glider even though it was never attempted as the Allies recaptured the castle before the escape effort could be staged.

Colditz was a prison camp for officers and there were also several prominent inmates including the British air ace, Douglas Bader, Patrick Reid who published a number of publications on Colditz after the war, Airey Neave who was the first officer to escape from the POW camp and was also eventually elected to the British Parliament, Sir David Stirling who founded the Special Air Service and Charles Upham from New Zealand who was awarded the Victoria Cross and bar. One of the more notable of all was Giles Romilly who was the nephew of Winston Churchill's wife.

In more recent years, Colditz Castle has been refurbished and is open to visitors to see this historic building for themselves.

All Aboard: Sydney Accommodation Near Central Station

By Sean Bond

Staying close to the train station takes some of the edge off of your worries when important meetings loom or connections to flights. Maybe your parents expect you at a certain time and missing your train would only lead to unnecessary worry. On the other hand, if your family already lives in Sydney, choose Sydney accommodation near Central Station for a quick get away.

Near Central Station there are many attractions besides being able to get in and out of the city in a hurry. These include galleries, museums, architecture and more. Visit Darling Harbour or do some serious shopping. Without a car you are free from worrying about where you parked it.

Sebel Surry Hills boasts 270 rooms. Each one gives guests access to car parking for visitors coming to meet them at your hotel, plus spa, sauna and gym. Burn off steam after a long flight or train journey where sitting or standing still just about drove you crazy. Relax in front of an LCD TV with a drink from the mini bar.

With 24 hour reception every question will be answered. Find out a bit more about entertainment in the city, including pubs and clubs. Otherwise, simply stay put for a meal at the on-site restaurant and bar.

At the Marque Hotel feel some reassurance knowing that among your 24 hour lobby staff are first aid trained personnel. This is especially comforting if you bring little ones with you on holiday. Parents will worry. Kids aged twelve and under stay for free with their parents or guardians too.

Ease your mind of the professional worries that keep you awake at night by swimming in the pool. If swimming tires kids out, it could work on you too. The next morning run downstairs for a continental breakfast to start your day. Wake up service will help you rise in time to eat before catching your next train.

The Medina Executive contains only 98 rooms, which makes it sound like a bed and breakfast by comparison with some massive chain offerings. Enjoy the luxury of a spa, sauna and gymnasium to help you along with self-care, that idea which encouraged you to go on holiday in the first place. Then again, sometimes self care is more self-indulgent and lazy so do what feels good. Arrange for a babysitter to watch your children then head out alone, or if you come with a partner, take this opportunity to share an intimate walk and a quiet meal for two only. If you booked an apartment, going out may not be necessary. You have the use of a fully equipped kitchen so make use of what you paid for. Maybe even bake cookies for a friend before boarding your train to make a special delivery. A drink from the mini bar may help you to unwind in front of the LCD TV.

With an amazing 517 rooms the Mercure sounds like a colossus among hotels, but they aim to please each guest. Book modern comfort in standard style, serious luxury, or something between the two. All rooms have an LCD TV. Soak in your en suite tub after spending a long time waiting for trains or making transfers from one to the next. Some rooms have the extra special addition of an espresso machine and quality teas. Others provide a partition to place between living and sleeping spaces. Choose to enjoy a Sydney panorama from your window plus a sofa bed to make space for the bigger family.

Holiday Tips To Get A Good Run For Your Money

By Marcus Graham

To be your best on the job you need to also schedule time to unwind. No one can expect to be able to work nonstop with not time off. A vacation can be a great way to recharge when you've overtaxed yourself on the job.

To make the best of your days off, you'll want to start planning your vacation as soon as possible. It will help you to get the best deals.

Think about all the places you would love to go. Are you the kind of person who prefers to get some sun on the beach? Or would you rather hike a trail or scale a mountain? Maybe you're looking for a family vacation and would like to go to a theme park that has something for everyone.

Often your choice in destination depends on what it costs you to get there. Go ahead and make a list of the top five destinations you would love to visit. Then, take the next step and start researching.

Start by going to a travel web site. From there, look up what flights are leaving on your travel dates. Make sure to record the fees and include the taxes and baggage charges. Where possible, find out the cost to drive there instead. It may be cheaper in the long run.

Your list of expenses should include the cost of lodgings. Check the hotel rates on the vacation dates you've selected. It's good to know what type of hotel your budget will afford you. Get the information for each of your top five destinations.

Don't assume that you should always go with the cheapest hotel available. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel you may want to upgrade. It can be worth the money when you consider the additional amenities more expensive hotels offer. Don't forget to consider travel costs if you decide to fly and want to rent a car once you're there.

Include all the costs when you're compiling your research. It helps to have all the information when making such an important decision.

An Intriguing Review Of The Comedy Series Drew Carey Show

By Eileen Bean

Seinfeld gets a lot of attention, as it well should, as having been one of the most innovative sitcoms of the nineties. However, The Drew Carey Show really made just as many important innovations in the television show format as Seinfeld, even if people mainly remember it as one of those shows you watch when there was nothing else on. Put it on your list next time you visit your movie download service and see what the show was really all about.

The show could have been just one more formulaic sitcom to throw on the pile. Carey could have played a football dad with a football widow wife, two kids, and a wacky neighbor, but instead, he chose to make the film about a single guy, overweight, with a dead end job and who is just unsatisfied with where his life is at this point.

It's not a family sitcom, it's a single guy sitcom, about a guy in his forties who is not happy with his life.

Like Seinfeld, the show never really delved into the same formulaic plots about Superbowl parties and so on, and really went in a whole new direction creating its own, new concepts for great TV stories. It's about the existential dread, the fear you feel when you're anywhere between thirty and fifty and wondering why your life didn't shape up the way you wanted it to. It's really interesting, and a little deeper than the usual Football Widow jokes you see in most sitcoms.

By the end of the series, Carey was making something like a million dollars an episode but, sadly, the ratings were starting to drop and the show had to be canceled, even though it did garner a loyal following who would always make sure that they were at home after work in time to watch it.

The show was refreshing in that it focused not on a family, but on a single guy who's not all that attractive or in shape and hasn't risen to anything above mid-level department store management in his career. The show focuses on a man who seems to be perpetually on the verge of a mid-life crisis. He's around forty and hasn't really done anything with his life yet. It's really an interesting premise with a lot of room to explore different story ideas without always falling back on the "Son borrows the car without asking" story like so many family based sitcoms.

The show also feels refreshing in that it acknowledges that mom, dad and the kids are not, in fact, the only form a family can take, nor are mom, dad and the kids the only people in the US who matter. The show is, again, focused on single people, and the result is a show that really validates you no matter who you are in life and what you've accomplished so far.

And of course, Lewis and Oswald are two of the funniest sitcom characters of all time. It's always funny when a show that's already a comedy has comic relief characters.

Hoquiam: A Developing Community Rich in History

By Kyle Miller

The city Hoquiam, which means "hungry for wood", may be found in Grays Harbor County, Washington State, United States. The name was given by early Indian settlers because of the river that flowed to the Grays harbour. The settlement was eventually dwelled by white settlers in the 1850s because of its wealth and natural resources in game, shellfish, and giant trees. Hoquiam was officially incorporated into a city on May 21, 1890.

Based on the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of 15.6 square miles. 9.2 of the total square miles are comprised of land while the remaining 6.4 square miles is composed of water. The city has an oceanic climate. The longitude of Hoquiam is 123.888W while the latitude is 46.981N. It is located in the Pacific Standard time zone with an elevation of 20 feet.

Guests can visit to the Griffits-Priday Ocean State Park and the Ocean City State Park. These attractions are more than enough to keep visitors from coming back for more.

Hoquiam is recognized for its number of festivals such as the Ethnic Heritage Festival during March, Shorebird Migration Festival in April, River Festival in July, Grays Harbor Bluegrass Festival and Push Rods Festival in August, and Loggers Playday and Harbor Heritage Festival both in September.

In March 2009, the city was named a Tree City in the United States community by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to community forestry. The recipient of the award has met the standards of the Foundation with its tree board or department, tree care ordinance, its comprehensive community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. This is an excellent proof that the city is indeed safe and clean for its residents and dwellers.

Due to the city's continuous innovation and development, an award from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) for the AWC Municipal Excellence award was garnered in June 2010. This just goes to show how the city values improvement in its neighbourhoods, pedestrian walks, and lifestyle having won from over the 50 entries.

Even with its humble beginnings, the "hungry for wood" settlement has made its mark and name and has progressed into a developing city.

Social Benefits Of Having Your Dog Trained

By Stephen Louise

Dogs have no mode of operation and because they are man's best friends. It's the man's sole responsibility to organize on how he/she can train the dog so that they can peacefully coexist with each other.

This is the reason that man had to develop a mode of dog training where the dogs are trained to do particular activities. Below are some other reasons that it would be good to train your dog.

Trained dogs live a happy life since they have learnt to obey their master and since this makes their master happy the master always end up rewarding the dog making it to be happy.

This is different from untrained dogs that cannot be able to follow their masters' instructions hence just like a rude kid the dog end up being punished hence becomes unhappy.

A trained dog will always enjoy the privileges such as going on a tour with the owner and visiting different places which is not so with an untrained dog which will have a hard time being controlled by the owner so the owner cannot visit any place with the dog.

An obedient dog can easily be saved from danger since it can be given instructions and be able to follow it confidently, for example when a time breaks out, the owner can direct the dog out of the fire by giving it commands to follow which is not possible for a rude dog.

You can also help it avoid being hit by a truck when it is crossing the road since you can instruct it to stop at a safe place where you can be able to keep it.

Finally an obedient dog will enable you to bond more with the dog since you are the owner would love to stay and play with it even teach it new tricks.
