It would also have two arms that would lay on your pectoral muscles. This device is primarily supported by your body, specifically your shoulders. It would be attached to your helmet. It would not be attached to the body, seat belts, or car seat. It will be secured only with your body, not the car. The device would actually allow lessening of energy as the energy would be transferred to the shoulder, chest, and torso. Energy can also be transferred to the seat and belt.

It will be really effective in preventing cephalic and spinal damage. In car crashes, there will be sudden stops which will carry strong impact to the body. This device was developed first in the 1980s. Dr. Robert Hubbard first designed this device. He is an expert in biomechanical engineering. He noted that many racecar driver deaths were caused by violent cephalic injuries.

Dr. Hubbard has various training, experience, and knowledge as he was formerly a biomechanical crash engineer. The doctor created prototypes in 1985 then did crash tests during 1989. Such devices were declined by many racing safety companies though. The device gained interest only in 1994 after various famous drivers died during crashes.

These days, most racing organizations such as ARCA, NASCAR, and Formula One have stipulated already the wearing of such devices. V8 Supercar Series, CART, and World Rally Championship stipulated them as well. Sporting enthusiasts and professionals will need to don such device while racing.

Various designs are available nowadays already. There would be standards in safety, design, and materials. It is also used in other sports like monster truck events.
