By Jose Fisher

Blankets are bedding types that are made from a woven cloth in large sizes. These are often used for making people feel more warmth most especially when they are sleeping or just lying down. It traps the heat from a persons body, and thus, giving warm and heat to the body. It also protect the person from cold because of convection.

Traditionally, most blankets were made out of wool since this is warm, while the bed sheets are made out from linen, cotton, or silk. These materials for the sheets reduce skin irritations. The most common materials today are synthetic fibers for both blankets and sheets. Other purposes of these are for picnics or as an object for comforting small children which is called the minky blanket.

Minkys are types of fabrics that are used for creating baby clothing, blankets, and accessories. These fabrics are like fleece but are made softer and thicker. High quality fabrics help for preventing the color to fade out and help on decreasing warm over time.

Before a minky fabric was used for making baby blankets, this is first used for making small stuffed toys, diaper covers, pillows, booties, baby clothes, burp clothes, bibs, and pad covers for changing. From comforting the babies, not it also turns to comforting teenagers and adults and these are called as minky couture. Minky couture provides a luxurious fabric to all ages.

Another use of this aside from warming is to provide ideas to other people about some kind of decorations. Since these are made in many styles, designs, and patterns, these may give an elegant appearance to the bathrooms, living rooms, and bedrooms. These are utilized also for covering couches, piano, chairs, and dressers.

A minky is made durable and special so that it may be washed in a washing machine. Even after washing it for many times already, it will still remain soft like the first time you held it. For sure, almost all people do not want a lose blanket after washing it once. Most of the people are afraid in washing soft or thin types of cloth because it may be torn after one wash.

For sure, children most especially toddlers may love playing it through wrapping the fabric around them or they may drag it all over the house. To be able to maintain its shape and as well as the softness, follow these simple steps. First is separating it from other clothing. You should wash it alone or with blankets with the same type. Use laundry detergents and fabric softeners when you wash it. Avoid using bleaches.

Second, if there are stains, you remove it through the mixture of baby powder and cornstarch and placing it to the stain overnight before washing it. A dishwashing liquid may be used as well. These methods work when you use cold water for rinsing.

It would be better to hang it when drying it if there is a hot weather. But if not, use the dryer, but be sure to choose low heat setting. Some pillings may not be avoided, and you can remove it by using a disposable razor or sweater shaver. See to it that you will not cut the fabric.
