Pointers For Buying A Good Midge Head Net

By Patricia Murphy

Some insects, like butterflies, can be very pleasant to watch. However, if you walk into a swarm of bees or tiny flies, you will be in trouble. Since you cannot go around spraying bug repellent, you may want to consider buying a midge head net, to keep the insects away from your face. Whether you want a basic midge hat or a fancy looking one, there are some basic things you will still have to consider.

The net used and the size of the holes in the mesh, are the first thing you should consider. Keeping in mind that insects vary in size, the only way you will cover your bases, is by ensuring that the holes are so tiny you cannot see them without squinting. This way, not matter how small the insect it will not be able to get to your face.

The next thing you should do is look at the material of the hat and the mesh. For humid areas, cotton headgear is the best because it will absorb perspiration. However, unless the fabric is very light, it might make the whole thing a bit bulky. In case you have very sensitive skin, look for a net made of polyester or a polyester blend, to reduce the possibility of an allergic reaction.

Once you find at least three hats you like, start trying them on. This way, you will make sure that the ones you choose fit you snugly without being too tight. Even if the mesh may be a small distance from your face, check to see whether the elastic at the bottom leaves any spaces, and if it does, look for one that does not. This way, no openings are left for the insects to go through.

One individual may want a midge hat that looks like a baseball cap, while another may prefer one that resembles a fedora. As long as you know what you want, finding it will not be that difficult. There are a variety of designs to choose from, stemming from the fact that various companies produce these items.

Most of these hats are not expensive although the price may vary depending on the manufacturer. For everyday use, you can get a simple midge net for about a dollar. The addition of a fancy visor or the insect repellent used can drive up the price, but you are bound to find an affordable one.

Places with high humidity are prone to having insects swarming around, and therefore, finding this kind of headgear in these areas is easy. If you do not live in a humid area, this might be a bit harder, but you could always shop online. Ensure you buy from a well-known online store, and if possible choose those that have a return policy.

The material used for making the mesh and the type of hat attached will determine how you clean this item. If it has a visor, you are better-placed hand washing it. Some of them can be machine- washed, but this should be done while following the instructions on their packaging.
