How Illegal Movie Downloads Might Affect You

By Polly Callahan

People often download movies illegally through file sharing programs and seem to think this is alright simply because they are available. If you are caught doing this you could face very large fines. When movie downloads are done illegally they affect everyone who watches movies. We can all do our part to put a stop to this.

If you have a file sharing program on your computer then you could be part of the problem without even knowing it. If you have this program then people may be able to download any file, including movies, without your permission. If you have such a program on your PC then you should strictly limit what people can download from you.

If you download movies from file sharing programs then they are usually illegal. You may save a few dollars now but it could cost you a lot more. You could face fines if you are caught and it could even raise the cost of legal movie downloads. Keep in mind that your internet address can be traced and the authorities can come to your home.

Illegal movies tend to have many other drawbacks. You may not even get the movie you want or it could have a virus attached to it. If it has a virus then you could harm your computer and possible wipe out important files. The picture quality on a lot of them is very poor and may not even be in a language you can understand. Chances are you will be put to a lot of trouble for nothing.

Downloading movies from a legal site is the best way to watch movies from your computer. These sites are often backed by major studios and you can be sure they are safe and that you will get the movie you want. They have everything you need right at your fingertips to watch all of the movies on their site. Even sites like Netflix are considering offering movies for download.

There are many sites where you can sign up to watch satellite on your computer as well. You can get movies from all over the world for a onetime fee. This will allow you to watch both movies and television programs just like you would on your television. You can find these sites easily and most of these services are reasonably priced.

Is it really worth it to get a few free movies? With all of the possible consequences why not just go with a legal site in the first place. Copyright laws protect the people who make these movies. Imagine if everyone simply waited until one single person bought the movie and then downloaded it. Eventually they would no longer be able to afford to make these movies.

You can help stop illegal movie downloads. If you don't use the file sharing systems that allow this or even if you make certain that no one can copy movies from your computer then you become part of the solution. Remember you are also setting an example for your children; teach them to be responsible and not steal in any form.
