He refuses to leave the company that he is with until he knows this key bridge is secure and not able to be used by the Germans.

This is an accurate depiction of all of the emotions and feelings that are relative to being at war. You are crying when the men are crying, you are scared when they are, and you celebrate when they do. This is an instant classic that everyone should see if they get a chance to, if nothing else for the incredible performances by Matt Damon (Ryan), Tom Hanks (Miller) and Tom Sizemore (Sgt. Mike Horvath).

One of these murders involves a severely obese man who appears to have been force fed to death. Fed so much in fact, that his stomach has burst open entirely which kills him. The other, involves a greedy lawyer. The interesting additions to these scenes would be the words "GLUTTONY" and "GREED" at the respective crime locations of the obese man and the corrupt lawyer.

Through a little bit of consideration, the two detectives determine that these crimes are relative to the seven deadly sins that are derived from Biblical texts. So, they are certain that they are dealing with murder, they are also certain that unless they stop it, they will be seeing at least five more. And they are less than mild on the eyes, so be fair warned.

To make matters even more obscure, the culprit, John Doe, reveals himself (even turning himself in). He offers to show the detectives Mills and Somerset to the location of the last two victims that had yet to be discovered. They are willing to play along when he agrees to give a full confession that would surely put him away. The last two victims are the last that you might have expected though.

There are powerful performances by Brad Pitt (Detective Mills) and Kevin Spacey (John Doe). Even as impressive as these performances are, they are equally as impacting as the supporting roles from Morgan Freeman (Detective Somerset) and Gwenyth Paltrow as the wife of Detective Mills, Tracy. This all star ensemble brought this chilling piece to the screen unlike anyone else could have. It was as horrific as it was an instant classic and a must-see.

So, if you wanted to learn more about Se7en, than this should have given you a good introduction to the film. While there is certainly more to appreciate about this movie, you are going to have to learn about that for yourself. So put the kids to bed, and appreciate what so many others have deemed one of the best films of 1995, and likely the nineties altogether.

The Basics Of The Kentucky Derby For Horse Racing Beginners

Although the Breeders' Cup is nipping at its heels, without a doubt the Kentucky Derby is the biggest horse race of the year in the United States. This is a race that attracts many fans from the general public that typically don't follow horse racing. A thorough understanding of horse racing, and which horses will win and why is a complex discipline that requires extensive specialized knowledge.

While understanding and predicting horse races is a very complex discipline, here are some basics that can help the amateur understand the Kentucky Derby. Back during the seventies, it was a race dominated by the favorite including three great Triple Crown winners--Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed--and a great horse that came close, Spectacular Bid. Since Spectacular Bid won the Derby in 1979, however, you can count the favorites who've won the race on one hand with fingers left over. If I was a serious horseplayer, I might not advise you to do this but since I'm just worried about predicting the outcome of this one race Im going to suggest that you forget about the favorite altogether. Not only will you not be flying in the face of recent history, but also it allows you to concentrate on the horses offering greater value.

In all fairness, it should be noted that the favorite has been a historically strong proposition. In the 135 Kentucky Derby races the post time favorite has placed in the money at a 69% clip over the history of the race. So why have the favorites been on such a money losing run in the past two decades? My personal theory is that it is a function of the growing hype surrounding the race"in other words, you get a lot of amateur horse racing fans that distort the notion of the favorite being the most likely to win the race. The most hyped horse becomes the favorite, but this is not always the best horse. In any case, though it could be argued that the anti-favorite bias could be due for a turnaround, for the purpose of understanding this particular race Im going to forget about the post time favorite.

Another important component of Kentucky derby success is the post position of the horses. The innermost positions (1 through 5) have produced over 40% of all Derby winners, while the outer post positions (11 through 20) have had only 13% winners. Note that in some years there might not be that many horses in the race, which would help partially explain the poor performance of the outer start positions. Still, for the purposes of understanding a single race eliminating all of the less favorable start positions is a good idea.

A couple more factors to consider are the horse's gender and breeding lineage. A couple of simple rules can be applied here--first of all, forget all horses that aren't intact males (geldings and fillies). Over 90% of all Derby winners have been intact males. Then, eliminate any horse that wasn't born in the state of Kentucky. This stipulation is starting to change, but for the time being is a good rule to apply for the novice. Over 80% of all Derby winners have been born in Kentucky.

Dosage index numbers have also taken on a great deal of significance in recent years. What are dosage numbers you ask? I have no clue, beyond the fact that theyre a complex mathematical measurement that reflects the quality of the horses family tree, as well as his performance as a two-year-old. The conventional wisdom is that horses with a dosage index over 4.00 are not supposed to be competitive at the long 1 mile distance. This isnt always the case, of course, but for the dilettante its a good factor to consider. Since 1984 (when dosage systems first came into vogue), the winners of nine Derby races were dosage system selections.

Even if you're not the biggest fan of Nora Ephron and her dating comedies, My Blue Heaven is really something special, and certainly one of the must download movies of the era. Steve Martin really knocks it out of the park here, and Nora Ephron goes above and beyond to prove that she can actually still be incredibly funny when she really wants to be.

Steve Martin and Rick Moranis co-star as, respectively, a made man from the New York mafia currently in the witness protection program, and an FBI agent protecting him from the goombas that would have him whacked. Martin is sent to a picturesque small American town, so it's your standard fish out of water story, but because it's done very well this time, it works, it's funny and it feels relatively fresh. It all comes down to how the story is told, and this one is told well enough.

Of course, what it REALLY comes down to is if the movie is funny, and this one is. Even the material that shouldn't be all that funny, it actually works because of how skilled Martin and Moranis are at this sort of banter. The whole movie is full of great laughs and, at the very least, some good chuckles. This standard odd couple relationship, like the fish out of water plot, is made fresh and new by the cast and approach to the material.

Martin quickly takes over the entire small town after meeting up with some fellow protected witnesses. You'd think it might get unpleasant watching a bunch of truck hijackings and robberies in the middle of a light hearted comedy, but they actually manage to make it sort of cute and innocent. It doesn't feel like mafia stuff, it feels like a grown up version of the Little Rascals getting into mischief.

Even though the movie does get into organized crime, murder and so on, the end result is really a film that is cute, innocent, funny. The violence is never really scary or suspenseful so much as... Well, a shootout provides a fun bonding experience for Martin and Moranis, and another gunfight towards the end of the film provides one of its biggest laughs "I lied, now where was I?"

The movie also draws some great comedy from Martin's incredible ability to juggle women. He has two girlfriends and a wife, and somehow, they never find out about one another. This is funnier and funnier as the film goes on and you start to wonder how he manages to drift in and out of these women's lives without ever drawing any suspicion. Maybe he's just that charming?

The movie has a really great look to it. The whole point of the film is the contrast between Martin's violent, urban upbringing, and the small town friendliness and beauty of his new environs, and the cinematography really does the trick. Martin's new home is really set in a gorgeous land of blue skies and green hills.

It may not be one of the greatest films ever made, but it's certainly one of Ephron's best, every bit as funny as When Harry Met Sally, but also focusing on more interesting subject matter than the same old dating jokes that don't really hold true for anyone out of their mid twenties.

Mel Gibson Stars In The Road Warrior

There's something to be said for action flicks, especially when they're as well crafted as The Road Warrior. This film was what really got Mel Gibson started on a global level. Mad Max saw him explode in the US, but since the film hadn't been released in the US yet, or throughout much of the rest of the world, it was The Road Warrior that made him a household name. It's definitely one of the must download movies of all time.

There aren't many movies that work so well as action movies while being one of those films you might consider to be one of the greatest ever made. However, the film is just so incredibly strong on so many levels that you have to recognize how good it is as a film regardless of whether or not you're usually a big fan of action flicks.

If you haven't seen it, and somehow have no idea what it's about: Mad Max Rockatansky is a former cop wandering a wasted outback in Australia. Food and water have become scarce after World War III, as has gasoline. Max is trying to find enough resources just to keep himself alive from day to day as he wanders across the wasteland.

Eventually he must come to terms with his own humanity or lack thereof. Throughout the previous film, the first Mad Max, Max lost touch with his own humanity in the pursuit of vengeance. Now he must reaffirm himself as human, as a member of society, or... What's left of it, anyways.

The movie is essentially one long chase scene, stopping here and there just long enough to give us a breather and some more character and story development. Of course, the majority of character and story is developed through the action, which is how it's supposed to be. Too often, action is only thrown in to get in the way of the story and put the viewer's brain on pause. Here, the action IS the story, just as it was in the days of the old westerns.

In the end the movie is really a statement on heroism, delving into Joseph Campbellian mythological structure and coming up with what many Australians consider to be "Star Wars Down Under". It's certainly one of the most successful films to ever come out of that country, and is still considered a national treasure of the Australian cinema all these decades later.

It will likely go down as one of the great westerns and western influenced films. It should stand alongside Stagecoach in that regard, in that it really is just great action and physical heroism from beginning to end.

The movie is loud, fast and aggressive, full of insane characters and crazy stunts (several stuntmen almost died, in fact). It may well be one of the greatest films ever made for storytelling and craftsmanship, and if not, it's certainly one of the all time great action films, and certainly worth a watch whether or not you're usually an action fan. It's definitely one to see before you die, and if you haven't seen it yet, you want to ASAP.

At +500 I might be interested, but at +200 the value just isn't there.

Note that the more competitive the market, the more difficult it is to find good value on the favorites. Since you can make a case for quite a few teams to win the NCAA tournament at this point this particular futures market is clearly a very competitive one. In a less competitive marketplace it might be possible to "pick the winner" and have it be a good value though you will pay a price for this. Here's a (thankfully) hypothetical example: let's say the UFC decided to hold a one night round robin tournament with 5 competitors. Competitor #1 would be heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. The other four competitors would be professional figure skaters Elvis Stojko, Rudy Gallindo, Brian Boitano and Evgeni Plushinko. Even if he didn't bring his "A game", Lesnar would be essentially have a 100% certainty of beating the four untrained fighters, who also happen to be rather effeminate. If a sportsbook installed Lesnar as a -1000 favorite a bet on the 63 265 pound takedown would still be theoretically a good value. It's always difficult to risk so much to win a little, but from a strictly theoretical standpoint its a good play.

Don't get seduced by big underdogs: Sports betting is not a place to make the "big killing". It may happen occasionally, but more often it doesn't. While a sports book might offer a huge price on a cellar dwelling team to win the World Series, the big payback does not mean its a good value. On a practical level, there's probably nothing wrong with throwing a few bucks on a wager like this with a huge payback if the impossible occurs. My only problem with this is that making too many bets like this just perpetuates bad sports betting habits. If you're strictly a recreational player, no big deal. If you aspire to bet professionally, or at least want to pursue it with some degree of seriousness I've always maintained that you need to develop discipline that's not situational. In other words, if you want to be a serious sports bettor you need to approach it with a consistent level of seriousness at all times. Dead or Alive 2 is both a sequel and not a sequel. The two leads are recast as two entirely different characters, but they sort of parallel the original two characters. In the original, they were a cop and a gangster after one another's throats. This time, they're best friends. They grew up together in an orphanage and now work as hitmen who donate all their proceeds to fighting disease in third world countries.

The first movie in the series has a very negative edge to it, it's very harsh. This one is all heart, it's very positive, so it's interesting to see the whole thing flipped on its head. It also deals a little more responsibly with the cost of violence on a person's soul.

The third film, Dead or Alive Final, goes in the science fiction direction, more specifically, cyberpunk, with replicants and evil dystopian governments. Saints Blitz Giants To Claim NFC Supremacy

Heading into last Sunday, there was a consensus that the New York Giants were the best team in the NFL with an undefeated record, a productive offense and the league's top ranked defense. The New Orleans Saints made a compelling case to the contrary, however, as they dismantled the Giants to win 48-27 behind yet another MVP-like performance from quarterback Drew Brees.
