The Uses Of Industrial Extension Ladders With Safety Precautions

By Leticia Jensen

We use ladders for the purpose of reaching or taking things from an elevated area. They are basically a tool that is composed of a set of steps that help us reach our goal. They are classified into two and they are the rope and the rigid ladder. The difference of the two is that the former is hung while the latter is leaned on a wall.

Between these two, rigid ladders are the most commonly used especially in industries. Basically, they are made of either wood, metal or plastic and are intended to sustain heavy loads. In industries, there are a lot of activities that needed their function especially during construction that is why they were termed industrial extension ladders.

Speaking of this, there are various types of rigid ladders and they serve their intended use. There are appropriate ladders for different load capacities or use. With this, there are five categories of ladder duty ratings. The first one as IAA which is capable of 375 lbs., the next one as IA and is capable of 300 lbs., the third on as I which is capable of 250 lbs., the fourth one as II and is capable of 225 lbs., and the last one as III which is capable of 200 lbs.

This has been so that there would not be unlikely events to happen. Just try to imagine the disaster if one uses a light duty ladder when bearing a load of 300 lbs. It would likely result to accidents. Another factor to consider is the appropriate ladder to use for the height and most especially the kind of job.

Other than that, there are a few more safety reminders that you have to abide in. There have been so many accidents that are linked to ladders since then such as obtaining injuries and bruises and worst is death. Common reasons are the lack of knowledge and the negligence to pre check.

Every time, before using it, one has to check is it is still qualified for use. It should be that when you knew it has fallen before, quickly check if the parts are still in place. Also, if it was moved from a dirty or muddy place, clean it first to avoid it slipping off when you are climbing already.

Another thing is, you have to know the right distance of the ladder from the wall. This is really a common mistake because people mind less about it. When you set it in place make sure that its stance is enough to hold your weight. Otherwise, you will fall off the opposite direction. This is why you should really know the basic or primary knowledge in using the tool so that you will be far from hazards.

Another is avoid using them during wet and windy days. You should know that they are vulnerable to strong winds and they easily slip off in wet areas or in the mud. Well, you can if you have control measures in case of these weather conditions.

There are actually two types of extension ladders or they can be called portable as well. They are the straight extension and stepladder. Straight extensions have only one base like a bicycle and can be used to reach really high areas while stepladder has a double base like a car and are most suited to taking things from a high closet without worry much about balance.
