Try Jungle Tours In Thailand For An Unforgettable Adventure

By Christa Jarvis

There is nothing like an adventure holiday to get the adrenalin pumping and the muscles working. It's great for the soul too, since you do things you never thought possible and you get to have experiences that you'll never forget. Most of these adventures allow you to spend some time in nature as well. If you're looking for an easy way to have the adventure of a lifetime, jungle tours in Thailand should definitely be on your list.

Thailand is located in Southeast Asia and is renowned for its natural beauty. The people here are generally very friendly, which has earned the country the nickname 'The Land of Smiles'. It's a country of contrasts, with bustling, modern cities but also remote villages where life is lived like it has been for hundreds of years.

The Southeast Asian country is regarded as the top destination in the region. It's very affordable and easy to reach. Moreover, it offers a bit of everything, from Buddhist temples to bustling nightclubs, from chaotic city streets to remote beaches or spas located deep in the forest.

A great way to escape the tourist crowds and the choking pollution of Bangkok is to head for the wilderness. The country has more than a hundred national parks to protect its wildlife, from marine creatures in the coastal parks to elephants, deer and tigers in the more inland parks. Many of the protected areas are covered in dense jungle with mountains, valleys, waterfalls and lakes or rivers to explore.

Most of the parks are easily accessed. Some are even only a day trip away from the beach resorts, making them ideal for short hikes. If you prefer something more epic, consider a trek in the mountains and visit some traditional villages along the way. Another option is to go exploring on the back of a gentle elephant.

It's important to remember that the dense wilderness can pose some dangers. Drug traffickers are a problem in some of the more remote regions of the north, for instance. However, a reputable and knowledgeable guide will help ensure a safe trip. You'll need to bring sufficient drinking water for the heat and because potable water isn't available everywhere. Insect repellent is a must too and light-weight, long-sleeved shirts and long pants will be a life-saver. Sturdy hiking shoes will keep dangerous snakes and scorpions at bay.

Thailand is a good year-round destination with a hot and humid, tropical climate. For trips into the wilderness, the best time to go is from November to February. From March to June it's almost unbearably hot and you'd rather want to be on the beach, while July to October is monsoon season. If you come during the warmer months, you'll find that it's cooler high up in the mountains.

Finding a suitable tour is very easy. You can find tour operators online and book ahead. Alternatively, most travel agencies in Thailand will be able to arrange a trip for you and some resorts offer excursions too.
