Why You Should Go To Moose Tours And What You Get Out Of It

By Deborah Russell

Wildlife tours are one of the most satisfying and picturesque things to do when out on a trip with family and friends. This is especially fun for kids. So for those with little sports, it is recommended and highly educational to go and watch these animals in their natural habitat.

One great place to watch majestic animals is in the state of Maine. This state probably seconds Alaska with their population of moose. Maine moose tours are a very popular service offered here and there are many great reasons why you should seek them out while you are in Maine.

Encountering them on the highway does not count as a pleasant moose watching experience. Go with something that involves a guide who knows more than enough about the animal. These people are well rounded on nature and the environment they are showing you around. These creatures are a thing of wonder and look like they come from storybooks of pure fiction.

One huge achievement for photographers, professional or hobbyist, is getting a great picture of the animal in its natural environment. Many great pictures of male moose with their majestic full antlers is something anyone who took the shot would be proud of. This is probably one of those things you can brag about when you get back to the city, and for good reason too.

These antlers can reach up to six feet and 40 pounds each antler. It is just right that they are the largest in their species. Most of the males start growing their antlers at around May tho July. While most people would say that they are best spotted at dawn or dusk, you can still find them at any time of the day as long as you are at the right spot.

To see bulls with fully formed antlers it is best to go during fall season. This is because they shed these in November to December while new, larger ones start growing during spring. The best way to catch this sight is by reaching out to a local safari service in Maine that know what time and when these elks go out.

There are about 5 famous spots to catch a sighting of elk in Maine. The first one being The Rangeley Lakes. There is also Carrabasset Valley that can be for canoeing. Moosehead Lake will have the creature likely appear at the wallow. There are just so many places where you can catch them.

There are many possible places that you can get a good look at these animals. One is at Rangely lakes that has a lot of streams. Then there is the Carrabasset Valley and Moosehead lake where the creatures usually hangout near the wallow.

Remember that while these creatures are basically docile they can be aggressive when threatened by humans. Also they especially hate your dog so it is best not to lug one around. If you want great sighting apart from what you can get from safaris and tours, look for roadside parking and wait. This should be especially useful if you are trying to film the animal.
