What To Include In Emergency Survival Kits

By Susan Carter

Unforeseen occurrences can happen to anyone in this world. Being ready always is advisable. This will include packing some essentials that one can easily access in case of a disaster, this may include fire, earthquake or war. Emergency survival kits should consist of things that one cannot do without them, they may include the following.

The first thing to consider packing is a first aid box which has all the required equipment to attend to an injured person that cannot be able to access a medical facility as soon as possible. This is very important because many people get injured due to the disaster that can happen either fire, earthquake or war hence the need for medical attention.

Water is a very important thing in every living thing, may it be animals or human beings. So it is recommended for one to include several liters of water that would at least last for four days. Water may be used for drinking, washing or cleaning wounds that can be as a result of the crisis.

Some people live with the help of specific medication due to the diseases they may be having so it is recommended to pack all the medicines that any family member takes on a daily basis. Inhalers should not be forgotten either if there is an asthmatic person in the family. Almost every medicine has its expiry date so it would be a good idea to check if they have expired and replace them with the most recent medication.

Another thing that one is not supposed to forget is a matchbox or anything that can be used to light fire. This is because of the importance of fire in human being day to day life, it is impossible to live without the use of fire. It is used to scare wild animals that may harm human beings in the forest or used to cook and keeping people warm especially at night where there is a lot of colds.

Food is also an essential thing that one cannot do without it. Packing some foodstuffs is recommended, this may include nonperishable food that will last for long, it should be easy and fast to cook because of the time and fire limitation. The food should be enough to last for at least four days until any help is offered by people around or by the government concerned.

No emergency survival kit should lack cutlery. This includes a knife that will be very helpful during the days away from home. A knife has many uses, it may be used for defense purposes or for preparing food or even used to cut ropes or tree stalks that may be used to make up a small shelter for the family. So one should not forget to pack a knife for it is very important for survival.

Clothes are also very important for survival. Carrying a few clothes is recommended to keep warm at night or on rainy days. Each and every member of the family should have some clothes packed in case of an emergency for some clothes may become dirty or some may be torn during the crises.
