Gold Coast Golf is Brilliant

By Bailey Jamieson

The Australian Gold Coast is situated in southern Queensland and is well known for its many Gold Coast Golf Holidays and opportunities along with being in close proximity to beachside playgrounds, internationally famed theme parks. With so much to do throughout the whole of the Australian Gold Coast consisting of all entertainment of the world celebrated theme parks, bars and discos, sub-tropical rainforests, casinos, entertainment and naturally the dazzling sandy beaches which the region is legendary for. The Queensland Gold Coast offers it all and is a world class golf holiday destination. With its location and sub-tropical surrounds it is little wonder that the Gold Coast provides year round sunshine and outdoor opportunities to captivate all eager golfers. Australian seasons are the reverse of those experienced in the Northern Hemisphere - the average summer time temperature is twenty five degrees Celsius and in winter, it is around 15 degrees Celsius. With golfers invariably looking for pleasant sunny temperatures the Gold Coast is a great option with more than 300 days of shining sun every year.

It is simply no wonder that the Gold Coast has evolved as such a idylic golf location because there is such a large number of golf courses to select from. The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) is the current operator of Royal Pines and stages a variety of functions like the yearly Ladies Masters tournament.Presently there is an onsite Golfing School which has a good selection or programs to accommodate golfers at all levels. These opportunities range from one day programs through to full time certified training. An alternate well known Gold Coast Gold Coarse is Lakelands that offers a design of 18 holes designed by champion golf player Jack Nicklaus. It keeps a particular originality to its design and amenities contain a floodlit driving range, pitch and putt green and a pro-shop.

One of the unique links style golf courses is found on Hope Island at the north end of the Queensland Gold Coast. Once a public resort course, it is today under the management of golf course operations group, Troon Golf. With the new operations has come a different operating name, now known as, "Links Hope Island". Hope Island golf course is created by five times British Open Champion Peter Thompson with the efforts of Mike Wolverridge, the sweeping design is set in a 360 ha residential resort community. This sweeping layout is considered exceptionally demanding and covers 6500 Championship metres and features 128 bunkers.

Without a doubt one of the very best golf courses on the Gold Coast is Palm Meadows. Few other Gold Coast golf courses have had so many golfing legends walk the fairways as Palm Meadows, Norman, Langer, Jumbo Ozaki, Strange, Raffety, the number goes on. These days Palm Meadows is a preferred course for a great many local and foreign players although in its earlier days it has been home to one of the sports wealthiest tournaments. The course was devised by leading Australian golfer Graham Marsh, who included water into play on fourteen of the eighteen holes, placed 80 sand bunkers, 3 story high bamboo clumps and more than a thousand palm trees to shape a magnificent golfing experience.Palm Meadows has received many accolades in its 20 years, however none can compare to being included in the "Worlds Top 500 Golf Holes". In particular the eighteenth hole at Palm Meadows is placed in the main five hundred holes in the world by the American Golf Digest. The appeal of of the 18th is in the lake that lays alongside the tee and stretches the full 523 metres of the hole. The hole is striking and fulfilling but it can be equally demoralizing if golfers land in the water. If you really want to experience the best that Gold Coast golfing has to offer be sure to book in a game at Palm Meadows.

Playing at some Gold Coast golf courses does have to have a booking well in advance and at others it is firmly members only and invite only so to be absolutely certain to plan ahead. The internet is an excellent resource in planning and booking your rounds on Gold Coast golf courses and also to plan and book all the added aspects of your getaway such as accommodation, tours and family activites.
