The Sforzesco Castle in Milan which is an abode of several museums is one of the important historical landmarks of the city. The Sforzesco family that ruled Milan during the 15th and the 16th centuries lived in this castle.

A great collection of Italian and European art of the renaissance era forms the nucleus of the art gallery at the Sforzesco Castle in Milan. The works of eminent artists like Van Dyck, Bellini, Mantegna and Correggio are showcased in this castle.

Behind this castle in Milan are the grounds which today serve as a public garden. The total area of the garden is about 50 hectares and consists of beautiful flower beds making it a good place to ease up for a while to get away from the hustle and bustle of Milan.

The Cathedral of Milan provides the most historic and religious architecture of Milan and it is a fact that the tour of Milan starts from here. It was in the 14th century that this Cathedral was originally built though many modifications were made in the later centuries in its structure.

The Cathedral in Milan is the fourth largest of its kind in the world and it can hold a capacity of 40,000 people. The spires on the cathedral that number over 100 reveal the fact that the architecture was Gothic in style. Other than being an example of architectural charm, the cathedral has thousand statues of various religious personalities from the Christian and Italian history.

The most popular statue among these statues is that of the Virgin Mary that can be seen atop the longest spire that measured over 100 meters in length. One has to pay a fee of 4 Euros to go to the top of the Cathedral to have a nice they of the city of Milan though it is absolutely free to enter through the gate.

Milan houses one of the masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci the world renowned painter and it is the Last Supper that belonged to the 15th century and which depicted the last supper Jesus had with his disciples. It was during the supper that he revealed that one of them would betray him.

Although the painting has declined at various times over the last five centuries, it has been largely re-established with meticulous care and is available for the public to view.

This painting cannot be viewed easily. It needs prior appointment that has to be made at least a few days earlier. You will have to pay a fee of 6 Euros to get in to see this amazing piece of art in Milan at the time slot allotted to you.
