There are many exhibitions of his work which are definitely worth exploring during your time in the Canaries. With lots of late holiday deals you have no excuse!
In 1945, he attended the San Fernando Art School where he graduated with a teaching diploma. By this time, his art work was receiving critical acclaim and Nelson Rockefeller bought several pieces. It was due to this endorsement of his work that he soon had the reputation of being one of Spain's most up and coming artists.
He met famous people such as Andy Warhol - another incredibly famous artist. He used his reputation to good effect and persuaded the local government to think seriously about the effects of tourism on Lanzarote.
He made a conscious move away from the traditional feel of the island. He lived a playboy lifestyle right up to the age of 73, when he was killed in a car accident near his home. He will always be remembered through his art.
