Four Helpful Tips For Your Maui Wedding

By Ella Hemmings

It's hard to imagine a spot more suitable for weddings than the Island of Maui, but many people worry that planning a destination wedding might be too difficult or costly. But the reality is that a Hawaii wedding can be easy to plan and even a cost-effective way to make your day as special as possible. These tips can make your Maui wedding dreams a reality.

1. Set A Firm Budget

While plane tickets and hotel rooms will need to be purchased, a wedding at a destination can be easier to afford than a wedding near your home. When at home, you might invite 100 or more guests, but generally far fewer people can and do attend a destination wedding. It might be just the wedding couple, a few close friends and immediate family. This substantially cuts the cost of a wedding reception which can easily eat up the majority of your wedding budget. Plus, you can enjoy your wedding and honeymoon all in one place. So just sit down and crunch the numbers and set a comfortable budget, chances are it's enough for your Maui wedding.

2. Set Your Wedding Date

Setting the date should be your next step after setting a budget. With a Maui wedding, it is imperative that you provide any guests with plenty of advance notice. Unlike the typical at-home event that just lasts one day, people will stay for several days in Maui, which means there is a lot to plan. People have to ask for time off from work, and they have to buy plane tickets and find a hotel room. Some people will need to arrange for child care or a pet sitter. All of this takes time, so be sure to give guests several months' notice. While the weather is great all year in Maui, there are high-season months, such as December through March. It might be better to book your wedding in September, October or November, when there are fewer crowds and potentially cheaper prices on airfare and accommodations.

3. A Maui Wedding Planner Is A Must

As soon as you set your set your date and your budget, hire a Maui wedding planner. Unless you lived for several years in Maui, you really don't know where to find the best wedding vendors. It's hard to select florists, find a minister, hire a photographer and handle all of the other details when you are thousands of miles away, and a Maui wedding planner is a lifesaver.

One easy way to plan is to select a convenient Maui wedding package, such as those created by Love Maui Weddings. Packages range in size and you can select a small, affordable elopement package or a grander package that includes a wedding on the beach, at a picturesque resort or perhaps at a historic plantation. There are interesting add-ons to consider, such as having the bride arrive for the ceremony by canoe or perhaps a pre-wedding helicopter ride.

4. Give Guests The Gift Of No Gifts

Wedding gifts are a lot of fun, both to give and receive, but since your guests are traveling so far, consider their presence as the only gift that truly is needed. For one thing, your guests are paying for airfare and accommodations, and it's not easy to bring wedding gifts to a destination wedding. Nor is it easy for the newly married couple to bring gifts back to the mainland after a wedding. Of course, some guests will insist on giving you something special, so encourage them to get a gift card for an amazing Maui restaurant or even donating to your favorite charity.
