If planning for your next vacation is becoming more difficult because almost all the often visited countries are very well known nowadays, you can opt for a somewhat remote place like Haida Gwaii. Despite being less famous than others, this country still offers refreshing places for you to experience and activities that you would surely never forget. If you are a traveler who thirsts for wildlife or outdoor adventure, then you should check out this place.

Haida Gwaii which is also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands is an archipelago that is located at the northern part of British Columbia. The islands are separated by three boundaries. The Hectate Strait for British Columbia to the East, in the north is the controversial Dixon Entrance towards Alaska, US and in the south is the Queen Charlotte Sound as the boundary for the Vancouver Island. With this many places to explore you will surely need to reserve some fine Haida Gwaii accommodations.

The most highly recommended place that you should visit is the Natural Reserve Park of Gwaii Haanas. This natural reserve is the home of some of the most endangered species. And under its protection are several rainforests. Located in the southern part of the peninsula, the reserve is one of the most protected place of the islands. If you decide to visit it, then you will know for sure why it should be protected.

Another site that is worth the visit are the long houses that are also located in the natural reserve. The houses are more or less a thousand years old and depicts the unique structure of the buildings in Haida before. You will also witness some of the customs that some of the Haidans still practice till today.

One of the most recommended places to go to is the cliff that is in Naikoon Provincial Park. The cliff stands 400 feet tall and was formed when there was a volcanic eruption a million years ago. What adds appeal to this is the blowhole that surges mist every few seconds due to ocean waves. If you are looking to have the typical beach experience, there is no need for you to look further because the North Beach that is located in the same park will give you a great time.

Haida Gwaii is full of surprises. It is rich with the beauty of nature not only in land but in sea as well. During spring, orca and humpback whales are the main attraction. This can be a very rewarding trip for you and your kids if you ever plan on going.

Charlottes also take pride in their arts and culture. They have a heritage center that offers shows regarding the Haidan way of life. You can also visit the Bill Reid Teching Centre that teaches fine arts. The highlight of the school is their carving department where totem poles are being made.

One of the more unusual places in the Charlottes is the Haida Gwaii Museum. Unusual in the sense that it is not just a museum. It also served as the burial ground of their ancestors many years ago. Although the museum can fill your eyes with the rich culture of the place through the artifacts in the museum, still knowing that there are several dead people on the ground that you are stepping on kind of adds to the thrill of the trip.

The Charlottes will definitely give you a vacation that you will not forget. You can choose different activities from whale watching to fishing. It may be one of the least famous vacation destination in the planet but it can offer you a lot.
