The Popularity And Benefits Of Suwannee River Campground

By Joshua Walker

One of the best ways to escape the hustle of ever day activities and work is by camping in a serene and beautiful environment. Florida especially offers great natural beauty and serenity of peaceful waters. One of the most recommended sites for a great experience is the Suwannee River campground.

Suwannee River is long and covers about 246 miles in length. It is home to great historical cultures. As you move along it, you can see mounds of earth works that were built as defense during the nineteenth century Civil War. It is also home to the oldest cemeteries of the nineteenth century inhabitants and there is a paddle wheel shaft from the historic steamboat. The stream is part of the Suwannee River State Park.

Camping is popular in this part of the state because the campsites offer opportunities for many recreational activities in a beautiful peaceful environment. There is a long wild scenic trail along the river and the various wild trails are a great hiking place. The stream is home to various aquatic lives such as fish and turtles. Wild animals and various species of birds are also present.

There are many campgrounds in Suwannee each with a strategic location that has something unique to offer from the nature. Most campgrounds provide opportunities for activities mentioned above and it is up to the camper to research and pick the one that offers activities that interest him or her. Most grounds or companies offer various amenities such as restrooms, hot showers, drinking water and sanitary dumps among others.

Facilities that are common in most campsites include stores, fire pits, hot water, electricity, flush toilets, boat ramps or canoes, picnic tables, grills and sports facilities. In primitive camping however, there are no toilets and electricity and in some cases drinking water.

Camping varies from one state to another. In Florida, there are some regulations that govern this activity. It is illegal to provide food for the wild and aquatic life and as mentioned above, there are rules that govern hunting, boating and fishing. Some campsites have age limitations and only allow adults.

Some campsites gear their activities to favor a certain group of people. You will find some sites recommending their place for families or large groups such as schools and organizations. Each ground has its own rules which may include maintaining of silence at late night hours, self disposal of waste and use of camp fire. Some of the rules are basic common sense regulations. For example, one is supposed to assume the river water is unhealthy and avoid taking it.

Bookings can be made online or through contacting agencies within Suwannee. Before settling for a campsite make sure you know the type of services and camping activities that they offer. Ask them about their regulations and any requirements that you are supposed to come with.
