Vegas Grand Canyon National Park Spring Break Plane Flights

By Belinda Shields

It's almost time for one of the most fun holidays of the year - Spring Break. With a little planning, you can choose a fun adventure that will pack your holiday with thrills and memories to last a lifetime. Vegas is the ideal Spring Break destination, and when you're there, you can take a side trip to the Grand Canyon and view its splendors from above on an airplane tour.

The Canyon's Two Rims

Some of the airplane tours from Las Vegas head to the West Rim. Touring the South Rim is an option, too, and all you have to do is fly to Tusayan in Arizona to begin the tour. It would take hours to drive to the South Rim from Vegas, but if you fly you can be there in about an hour.

The South Rim is the best destination if you are interested in seeing the beautiful nature scenes in the wilderness area and you don't want to fight a lot of crowds. A great thing about the South Rim airplane tour is that you can upgrade it to include a bus tour through the National Park. You'll get to see many interesting sights during the 2.5 hours allotted for the ground tour. The tour comes with pickup and drop off service at your hotel, and in all, it takes about ten hours to complete. You'll also have plenty of time to explore on your own, especially at the local tourist village where you can shop for crafts, souvenirs, and snacks.

If that's not enough fun and excitement, you can upgrade the tour further to include a helicopter flight over the rim. You can ride in a helicopter and fly to the North Rim and back. There is also a longer, fifty-minute tour that goes all the way to the eastern border of the park. You'll see a lot on the longer tour because it flies over approximately 75 percent of the Park. You'll even get to see the Dragoon Corridor, which is famous for being the deepest and widest part of the Canyon.

If you'd rather take a tour that's closer to Vegas, then the West Rim is a better choice. It only takes about 30 minutes to fly there from Vegas instead of an hour.

Touring The West Rim

The airplane tour to the West Rim allows you about 2.5 hours to explore the trails and scenic lookout points on foot. There are many hiking trails, so you'll find something that matches your fitness level, however, be sure you wear appropriate shoes and dress for the weather conditions. The West Rim is also home to the world famous Skywalk, the glass and steel platform that extends over the edge of the Canyon. You'll get to look through a transparent floor to the bottom of the Canyon 4000 feet below you for one of the most spectacular views imaginable. You can also get a professional photo of your experience as a memento of the exhilarating experience.

Helicopter flights are available at the West Rim as well. Look for the flight that comes with a descent to the Canyon floor and that lands beside the Colorado River. You can upgrade this tour to include a float along the scenic river.

Lock In Your Seats Early!

It will be busy at the Canyon over Spring Break, so buy your tour early so it isn't sold out. Try to get your seats booked at least two weeks ahead of your tour date. Use your credit card to buy your tour online and you can buy it as early as you want. Plus, the lowest prices are always online.

Get Ready For Spring Break Fun

Now you have some great ideas on how to have an exciting fun-filled Spring Break getaway. If you want to tour the scenic South Rim, be sure to upgrade to include the long helicopter flight that goes over the North Rim and eastern edge of the park. If you want to go to the West Rim instead, then you don't want to miss the helicopter ride to the Canyon floor. No matter what tour you take and upgrades you include, your day will be filled with beautiful sights and plenty of adventure when you tour America's most famous natural landmark.
