Sanitation With The Houseboat Toilet

By Martha Gray

Sanitation is very important despite the environment it is on so as to avoid health hazards. People who own boats should register with sanitation companies such that they are aware of when and where to dispose of the waste. Houseboat toilet should be aware that they can discharge waste through the toilets or through emptying tanks that hold the waste however discharging sewage is illegal.

Sanitation companies and sewage treatment companies monitor waste disposal on the seashore such that there are no major health hazards for the people who live along the coast region who even depend on fishing as a staple food. Therefore, there should be proper waste disposal methods that should be let known to boat users depending on the length that they stay on the water.

Some of the methods that boat users use for waste disposal are the portable toilets which usually are appropriate for the clients who spend a short time on the sea side. Portable toilets are a cheap method which ensures that there are no extra charges on plumbing and it ensures that issues of clogging are non-existent. There is a cheap method to maintain the toilets since chemicals can be used to avoid odor.

Seacocks should be closes when not in use. A vented loop should be fixed between the pump and the latrine bowl since it ensures that the water does not syphon and fill up the bowl. Therefore, an anti-syphon protection strategy should be implemented to ensure that the valve within the latrine protects it from water damage.

Depending on the number of people on the boat then holding tanks should have a big capacity or controlled use. A holding tank with multiple discharge options is most appropriate since it helps eliminate issues or odor and also maintains the toilet in good conditions for a longer time. These ensure that there are minimal issues of clogging when a y-valve is made available.

Cheap is expensive. Most boats no matter the size tend to use cheap material which can also make them encounter major issues of the toilet in the sea. Thus, the joker valve that is the rubber through which the waste products pass should be large, a kit for rebuilding the toilet should always be available just in case and the seat should be comfortable and installed in a good angle.

Toilets that are flushed with salty water develop scale deposits which could make flushing difficult. When calcium deposits also accumulate they could lead to the toilet blocking completely. Vinegar is the most suitable for the scale since it dissolves it.

A joker valve which points to the direction of flow should be large to avoid clogging and odor, a rebuilding kit should always be available since these toilets could need renovation regularly, the pump cylinder walls should be well lubricated and cleaned thoroughly, sealants on the gaskets should be used to prevent leakages.
