The Beauty Of Gold Eagle Coins

By Eowyn Obando

Gold eagle coins have two kinds. One kind is the gold eagle coin that has the ten dollar denomination. The coin's previous design had silhouette of the Lady Liberty on its front side. The design was changed later to the Lady Liberty wearing a war bonnet. On the other side of the coin was an eagle. This specific coin was circulated before 1933. The other kind of gold eagle coin is the gold bullion coin. This kind wasn't circulated but was still regarded as legal tender and minted even until today. The design may be different but the bullion coin also has the Lady Liberty and the American Eagle on either of its sides. The two kinds of gold eagle coins have differences like gold content, but the two kinds have captivated collectors for years due to their artistry and value.

Dimension

The US Mint has been churning out the American Eagle coin in denominations according to the gold weight in ounces. You can thus choose from any of the four gold weights between 1/10 oz to 1 oz, and since this is the measure in actual gold, the lesser the weight, the smaller the size of the coin. Expect the gold to be in 22 karats as gold standards had long established that its alloy with silver and copper is more durable than pure gold. As most collectors would know, the actual value of these coins depends on the gold content. In cases where there are low volumes produced, the bullion may be priced higher than its gold value. As with any other item whether collectible or not, its rarity or the demand for it can add value to the coin.

Attraction

When it comes to appeal, the gold eagle proof coin moves ahead. A particular minting of these coins produces a frosted surface on the embossing. It also produces a ultra-shine on its background. Typically struck twice with its dies covered with chemical, extra care is also needed by these coins to keep its luster. There are boxes and packaging made specially to protect these coins for countless years. Collectors search for these coins because of their beauty and value. When the demand for the gold bullion coins arises, the minting of the coins gives way to the gold bullion coins as mandated by law. But the longing of the collectors to collect them never decreases.

Investment

Gold coins can be a great addition to your collected items and are considered as good investment. Gold as a commodity can be a precious item to hold on to for years. Compare to investing in gold bars, investing in bullion coins also provide you with excellent craftsmanship and artistry. You can give bullion coins to people as presents. These coins can also be passed on as heirlooms and you'll be certain that they will be valued by the recipient for years and years. Some gold coins, like the ones minted to remember events or high points in history, can also serve as reminders of that period in time. If you own a business, you can present these coins to praiseworthy employees as a token of their service.
