Features Of A Pistol Display Stand

By Claudette Lambert

The pistol display stand is a practical, aesthetic unit for storing weapons. They allow the user to store many different types, though some do allow for the showcasing of one gun on its own. Oftentimes, these are mounted on adjustable posts. Understandably, security is of the utmost importance as a primary objective of the case is to stop people stealing the product.

A handgun stand is suitable for presenting a weapon at fairs, events and also in dealership stores. The avid collector might also have many of these at home to show friends and fellow collectors.

In the past, dealers have displayed their weapons without much fanfare, actually leaving them on tables or counters. Some would leave them lying around in shipping boxes or on a shelf, just like any other type of produce. Eventually, they realized that presenting the product in a desirable fashion would not only sell it quicker, it would deter theft. Therefore, the advent of the aesthetic weapon display for revolvers and handguns was born.

Sometimes dealers put guns in holding trays, which are able to house far more than one firearm. Trays are storage devices that allow the gun barrels to sit parallel to each other, which meant one had to be stored upside down.

When stands were created this gave rise to the potential for multiples of weapons to be stored as well as guns of different sizes. The units invariably had slots which supported the trigger. However, many of these displays were insecure and not much of a deterrent against theft. Nowadays the more valuable weapons are apt to be kept behind counters.

The base of an upright unit has to be large enough to support the weight of either one or several guns. Convention dictates that they are made from either wood, plastic or from metal and are in the shape of a rectangle. Ideally, a unit would be adjustable, so that once a weapon has been sold, firearms of different dimensions can be displayed in their place.

Security is one of the greatest concerns when it comes to storing firearms. A stand should clamp the barrel of a firearm in place, making sure it is elevated and cannot topple over. It needs to secure the weapon in such a manner as to provide a deterrent to theft and to anyone wishing to play around with it. What should not be forgotten is that the stand itself needs to be secure. For added security, some will use a cable to hold the display in place, meaning it is attached to a counter or wall by the cable and cannot be moved. That way people can't just walk in and take the stand with the guns still inside.

The bottom line is that choosing a pistol display stand comes down to more than just price. Security is one of the most important considerations because if the stand is easy to steal or easy for children to get into, then it is not doing its job. Another, some would say secondary, consideration are the aesthetics of the case. Going for a unit made of metal, wood or plastic could come down to personal preference or could depend on what material fits in with the decor of the home, office, dealership or wherever the weapons are stored.
