Learn More About The City Of Leeds

Known as the "Capital of the North", Leeds is situated in Englands West Yorkshire County. As home to over 750,000 people, there is no doubt that this city is the commercial, financial, and cultural backbone of the area.

West Yorkshire has 936,000 citizens that make up the workforce. Half of the workforce is employed throughout Leeds and from the rest more than 100,000 citizens are involved in the financial and business sectors of UK. Leeds is growing into a community for online economy.

With a small variation in temperature over the course of the year, Leeds is no stranger to the Oceanic climate that is found throughout the British Isles. The Atlantic Ocean has a heavy hand in determining the weather here, which tends to be pleasantly warm in the summer and mildly cold through the winter. Leeds actually sees the smallest amount of rain in the U.K., thanks to the protection of the nearby Pennies Mountains. Given its northern latitude, the amount of day light that Leeds gets varies from season to season with the longest day getting seventeen hours of sun, while the shortest earns only seven.

Leeds was formerly called Loidis and so the natives are known as "Loiners". The Leeds United AFC Football Club, the Rhinos and Hawks rugby clubs and Yorkshire County Cricket club are among the noted sport clubs of which the Loiners are very proud. These clubs were established almost 100 years ago and explain why sport is very important in Leeds.

With numerous carnivals, festivals, and theatres, its no surprise that Leeds attracts a healthy amount of tourism. The shopping isnt bad either as there are over 1,000 shops within the city centres two mile, no traffic, haven for shoppers. If you are looking for a fantastic nightlife, Leeds wont let you down. Thanks to a pair of internationally acclaimed universities and over 200,000 students, there are a plethora of bars, pubs, and clubs.

Called by some, "The U.K.s favorite city", or "The best place in Britain to live", Leeds has undoubtedly claimed its place among the greats of the British Isles. With so much to see and do, Leeds deserves every accolade laid upon it as the city refuses to disappoint.
