3 Excellent Family Restaurants In New York City

By Jon Hathaway

New York City is well known for their food, but well known for the cost of this food, and the sometimes lengthy lines to eat at nice restaurants. Everyone loves to go out to eat with their friends and families, it's fun, but you have to know when and where to go if you want to have an affordable and wait-free dining experience in New York.

If you're a fan of Alice in Wonderland, you have to visit Alice's Tea Cup. Alice's Tea Cup is a tea shop themed around the movie, but the lines get long. Arrive before 10 in the morning to avoid these lines. Reservations can be made for parties of more than 6 people. Prices range from about 20-30$ for tea sets, or if ordering individually roughly 10 dollars per person. Definitely check it out if you like tea and or Alice In Wonderland.

Positives: Unique and entertaining aurora; delicious food; great collection of uncommon tea.

Negatives - Slow; 1 bathroom for entire store; risky for children due to fragile nature of dishes.

Johns Pizzeria in Times Square (with another location on Bleeker Street) is one of the best pizza restaurants in New York. It's big and bright, serving whole thin crusted pizzas rather than per slice like many of their competitors. An entire cheese pizza (with tomato sauce) only costs around 12$, this is where you want to be to save money. If money is not an issue of course they offer many other toppings at a cost. Come for the food, come for the atmosphere, but don't come if you can't deal with a crowd or noise, as John's is always bustling.

Thumbs Up: Really good pizza, good prices, and service is always fast and friendly.

Cons: hectic at peak times; small bathroom; overpriced drinks .

3. Fetch Bar & Grill. Are you vacationing or traveling with a pet dog? If so, you'll love this Upper East Side restaurant's pro-animals attitude, where dogs are served water on the patio. The menu offers standard American fare like burgers, steak rolls, and mashed potatoes, so everyone from Grandpa to Junior should be able to find something appealing. Your kids will be able to relax in a casual atmosphere. Just watch out they don't convince you to adopt a dog over dinner!

Pros: friendly service; big portions; dogs are welcome.

Downsides: Never seen the menu change & for some reason they don't give free drink refills

All of these restaurants have a lot of unique stuff to offer, while not sending you into a coma over the prices and lines. Give one or all a try - with any luck, you'll leave New York with a full belly and happy memories!
