By Colm N. Musgrave

Amsterdam Netherlands is found in the North West of the country, in a province called North Holland. It is a city crammed full of fantastic design and museums showing the work of the great gurus. In contrast, you will find it hard to find an European capital city that has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The airport that serves Amsterdam is a major European heart. There's a nonstop train line from within the airport to the city center, and this station also links to all of the major cities inside Europe. As you step from the station you'll see the trams, metro and buses that make up a productive local transport system. It's possible to get some tickets that are accepted on them all, for durations ranging between an hour and a month.

Accommodation is available for all budgets. There are the standard 5 star hotels that you find in every major city, and , the medium-sized and family run hostels offering top quality accommodation. The prices have a tendency to be lower the further you are away from the center, but this isn't a handicap thanks to the transport framework. There are also backpacker hotels and self catering flats available.

The diversity of food available in eateries across the city is immense. Indonesian cuisine is one of the most well-liked, and if you have never tasted it one of those bistros is well worth visiting. Another kind of diner that's definitely worth a visit is a pancake house, you will be astonished by the various fillings on offer.

If you have planned to see the tremendous architecture, the Royal Palace and Oude Kerk, located in the center of the city are two places you shouldn't miss. There are also museums to suit all interests, including torture and lager, but it is the art museums that are at the top of most peoples agenda. The Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum are extraordinarily near to each other, but permit one or two hours to go to every one.

The 2 most popular commercial squares are Leidseplein and Rembrandtsplein. Here you can relax and have a drink or two while watching street entertainers. These squares offer cafes, bars, and restaurants of all sorts. There are a few parks in the city center, the most famous being the Vondelpark, permitting you to chill and forget that you are in a major city.

The annual party of the Queen's birthday on April thirty is one of the high points of the year. By law, each citizen can set up a stall at streetlevel and sell their goods. The city becomes very crowded, with people from all over Holland visiting. On that day you might find that traveling to and from the city, and especially through the city center, extremely difficult. However , it's a spectacle not to be missed.

Out of all the leading Western european towns, Amsterdam Netherlands is often regarded as being the most agreeable to visit. It's so relaxed, and everyone is so friendly, though this isn't surprising as that's the character of the whole country. The novelty of seeing how the new and the old can be in such harmony makes it a place that you must see.
