A Few Ideas About Likely Top Island Vacations for 2012

By Ian Smith

This short article on top island vacations is meant to be about little islands, mostly with only one resort. We feel that is what top island vacations should be about and we are hoping you will be entertained by our selection.

Our place to begin is a tiny rocky outcrop off the Sri Lankan coast called Taprobane Island. Imagine your own 2 acre island lyingoff the south western coast of Sri Lanka, not far from Galle, and close enough to the land to be in a position to enjoy everything that exploring Sri Lanka has to give. It is to all intents and purposes a villa with 5 bedrooms, all ensuite each with its own personal terrace, ideal for a group of friends, a big family or for a honeymoon

It'll take you back to a more elegant time, with an octagonally shaped house, a wrap around verandah, a lovely swimming pool and furniture that will make you think about the days of the british Raj. You will have five staff to cater to your every whim plusa security guard to ensure your safety. Taprobane is listed as one of the top romantic villas in the world. For more info about Taprobane Island CLICK HERE

We travel from Sri Lanka to Antigua in the Caribbean for our second island paradise. Jumby Bay is found on a privately owned island off the Antigua coast and for many years has been linked with al that's the very best in holidays. Here you will find a number of luxury houses, estates and villas in addition to the resort. The houses and villas can be booked quite often as well as the resort, and the accommodation is absolutely spectacular.

The island is gorgeous and the sea views quite amazing. It is absolutely all inclusive so you literally have to raise a hand to get your glass refilled. The fact is there isn't a lot to do, although there are nice walks and naturally we mustn't forget the Caribbean Sea with its lovely beaches. The standard of the catering is that Jumby is well known for, and you won't be let down here. Jumby isn't cheap, nonetheless it is very much at the very top of luxury getaways, and excellent for a romantic break.

The Azores as a holiday destination may not have crossed your mind, but it is a still unspoilt collection of 9 islands in the centre of the North Atlantic west of Lisbon. If you like spectacular landscapes, totally open empty spaces, fantastic flowering plants, small calm hamlets, lovely bays, and pollution free beaches then you'll adore the Azores. They are volcanic islands, so that you can go volcano walking, and there are hot springs. You can even see whales and that is worth going to the Azores for on it's own.

Because of its key position in the North Atlantic there's an amazing history and unique local cutoms to enjoy and take part in. The best thing is few holiday makers so it is still much as it's always been. There are quite a few nice Portugese inns to book into and the one that you should check out is the Hotel Aldei da Fonte on Pico known for its whale watching tower, its food and the warmth of its welcome. It stands above the sea and is a very traditional Azores building.

With luck you will have enjoyed this article about top island vacations. It's not necessary to agree with what the author thinks because everybody has our favourites. Maybe it may have made you realize there are other places you may not have thought about.
