Relocating To Alameda County

By Madeleine Glazier

If you are about to relocate to a city or town in California's Alameda County, one thing you will never have to worry about is finding something fun to do. This county boasts an enormous amount of attractions, and there is a little something for everyone. Along with Contra Costa County, Alameda County encompasses a unique area called East Bay.

Alameda County is home to more than 1.5 million Californians and its county seat, Oakland, is the largest city with more than 300,000 residents. While Oakland is a bustling, modern metropolis, it's actually one of the older corporate cities in California and was founded in 1852. There are also 13 other incorporated cities and many other towns and unincorporated neighborhoods.

For fans of pro sports, Alameda County has a lot to offer. If you love baseball, the Oakland A's play their home games at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, as do the Oakland Raiders, the county's NFL franchise. Basketball lovers can enjoy games at Oracle Arena, home to the Golden State Warriors. There is a diverse array of collegiate sports to enjoy, as well, at the University of California, Berkeley, which also is located in the county.

If you'd rather be participating in an athletic activity than sit as a spectator, then Alameda County has plenty of great options. The county is home to as many as 350 parks, some of which encompass thousands of acres with picnic and playground area, hiking and walking trails and more. There are plenty of places for tennis and about 25 golf courses in the county, as well. As the county borders the San Francisco Bay, there are also plenty of water-related activities.

If you have children, Alameda County offers plenty of great activities for them to enjoy. Young scientists will enjoy the exhibits and events at the Chabot Space & Science Center as well as the Lawrence Hall of Science. There is a historic farm in Fremont, as well as a water park and a railroad museum.

Head inland a bit and you'll discover the towns of Pleasanton and Livermore. Pleasanton is often named as one of the best places to live in the United States. It's also one of the wealthiest cities in the country. Nearby Livermore is known for its many vineyards and wineries, and many are open for tastings and tours throughout the year.
