Searching For Klickitat County Doomsday Prepper Properties

By Jerish Thieman

In these uncertain times, there are many reasons why people become "doomsday preppers." While some might find prepping to be extreme, there is something to be said for being prepared for many types of disasters or even a huge economic collapse. In modern times, we are highly dependent on others for our survival, and preppers are those who seek self-sufficiency so that they are ready for any eventuality.

If you are a dedicated prepper or survivalist, one of your key goals is finding an isolated spot for a bug out location or off grid land. Klickitat County in Washington offers many options for those who wish to buy doomsday prepper land. This rural county has only about 20,000 residents, and you can find a doomsday prepper property for sale in Klickitat County that is miles away from other people.

Your doomsday prepper real estate needs to be far enough away from most people to maintain secrecy and safety, yet if you plan on using this spot as a bug-out location, it also shouldn't be excessively far from your urban or suburban home. After all, you should be able to reach the property fairly easily if disaster occurs. Klickitat County can be a great spot for those who might need to flee cities such as Seattle, Vancouver, Portland or other nearby cities.

When searching for a prepper property, you need to think about the basic needs of survival and water is a huge part of that. Being close to natural water sources is good, but you need to also find a spot where drilling for water can be accommodated to create a well system. Water containment systems also are important as these allow you to harness and store rainwater. In Klickitat County, you can expect to have around 24 inches of rain each year and you will want to capture as much as possible. You also need to learn how to treat all of your water to keep it safe for drinking and cooking.

While most preppers store a great deal of food, it never hurts to learn how to hunt, and Klickitat County has a good supply of game. As with any location, there are local and state regulations regarding hunting, whether it's on public land or private land. Still, a hunter can find plentiful game such as turkey, deer, cougar, elk, pheasant, quail, duck and many other animals in Klickitat County.

You will want to be able to grow a variety of food, and Klickitat County offers many properties ideal for substantial gardens and even the growing of crops. Many preppers choose to raise some livestock, as well, such as chickens, rabbits and perhaps a dairy cow or goats. When searching for a doomsday prepper property, simply select a property where zoning ordinances allow for the raising of animals.
